Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Editable field and calculated field in a static list

    Hello!

I'm trying to create an app where users can add items to their order and then submit that order. I already have a mostly working version of it using a repeating section, but I am not enjoying working with repeating sections whatsoever. They either break after new alpha updates or operate in unintuitive ways, especially with deleting rows.

My new current method is to use 2 lists. One list has all the products, and the other list holds all the items from their order. I already have this working, but the issue I'm having is allowing them to change the quantity field on the list that holds their current order.
The list is currently set to static and I update it using javascript to insert the data from that list into the other.

Everything's working great, but I cannot figure out a way to allow the user to update the quantity field, and then I need to update the total field on there that updates as well (price x quantity). Has anyone done anything like this before or have any tips for getting something like this working?
I've attached a picture of what I have so far for reference.

    Thanks for the help!

You should only let the end user change the quantity have a look at what Lee does in this post for some ideas. Personally I would use viewboxes for what you are doing as it wold be much lighter.

      Thanks Lance!
I am going through that post and it looks like it has the tools I would need. I will take a look at viewboxes too, I'm always interested in making things lighter. Do you have any specific videos or examples of using viewboxes in this way you know of? I'll see what I can find myself too.

        Hi Nate,

I have a use case that I need to get working on with viewboxes I will have to start from scratch on this and is becoming a priority. If you want to get started on yours have a look at video UXVB_V12-4 to change your lists into viewboxes, the buttons you have in-between the lists will need a bit of coding but should not be too hard to do.

Thanks Lance, that's the tutorial I've been following, seems to be working well so far. Thanks for the help! Viewboxes seem to be the way to go.

            Why is the data static?

The list of products isn't static, but I haven't been having issues with that list. The cart list was static because it started off empty and was only changed by adding to it programmatically. I figured static would be the better way to do it to start it off empty. Should I be doing that differently?

I have the viewbox method mostly working now. I can add and remove items from the products list into the cart viewbox "list". Do you guys know of good resources to turn the quantity field of my viewbox into an editable field, and the total field into a calculated field of price * quantity?

That seems to be my last hurdle.

This will show you an overview of the power of the Viewbox for what you want to do.
Anyone interested after watching the video can write to me [email protected] and i'll set up a 1 hours zoom session.
