Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Set Todays Date

    Hi there, Im trying to return todays date in the format of 'MM/DD/YYYY', what is the correct javascript function for the xbasic 'Date()'?

    Ive got the following attached to a button in the onlcick event:

    {dialog.object}.setValue('DatePacketSent',Date());

    But this does not return what I am looking for. Thank Your for your time.

      but I think you will need to read date_format in alpha five javascript
      you may find it in release notes of version 12
      that will convert javascript object to something you like to see as in xbasic.
      thanks for reading

          Let me do a bit of research on this, thank you. I thought there would have been an easy way to write the function, just like in xbasic.

            Solution:
            Not sure if this is the correct way, but it seems to have worked for me. I changed the field to receive the Date from a Date field to Character and used the following in-line javascript on the OnClick event of a button.

            {dialog.object}.setValue('DatePacketSent', Date());

              if you want I can show you how to get 'MM/DD/YYYY' via javascript, but date format in alpha javascript is the same thing but easy on you.

                Gustavo,
                Did it work?
                Tried it and didn't for me

                {dialog.object}.setValue('DatePacketSent', Date());

                  Sorry, I just seen your post.

                  Here is the confusing part for me, In one portion of my application the string works as I described in post #6, but in another portion of my application it is not working. Not sure what to make of this. See my screen shots.

                  The field gets populated using a button with JS in the OnClick event.

                      Re: Set Todays Date

                      in the inline javascript you write this or copy paste to your dialog.
                      Code:
                      var d1 = new Date();
                      d1 = d1.toFormat('MM/dd/yyyy');
                      {dialog.object}.setValue('DATEPACKETSENT', d1);
                      note month is MM it is not typographical error.

                        I have come across this format in my web searches, but I was not too sure how to insert it into my inline JS. Thank you for pointing it out Gandhi

                          Try this and ignore the parts you don't need :)

                          Date.prototype.today = function () {
                          return (((this.getMonth()+1) < 10)?"0":"") +
                          (this.getMonth()+1) +"/"+((this.getDate() < 10)?"0":"") + this.getDate() +"/"+ this.getFullYear();
                          }

                          Date.prototype.timeNow = function(){ return ((this.getHours() < 10)?"0":"") + ((this.getHours()>12)?
                          (this.getHours()-12):this.getHours()) +":"+ ((this.getMinutes() < 10)?"0":"") + this.getMinutes() +":"+
                          ((this.getSeconds() < 10)?"0":"") + this.getSeconds() + ((this.getHours()>12)?('PM'):'AM'); };

                          var newDate = new Date();
                          var datetime = "Refresh At: " + newDate.today() + " @ " + newDate.timeNow();

                          {dialog.Object}.setValue('textbox5',datetime);

                            Alpha has built in .toFormat and .fromFormat into their JS libraries. We don't have to pull apart and push together dates in javascript... unless you really want to. I've also read a number of posts that warn against prototyping methods... it may lead to problems down the road.

                              If you could provide a link to any of those posts, that would be great. If there is a method that potentially problematic, I'd like to avoid it. Thanks
