Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How do I best approach multiple image capture/upload for single record?

I have seen multiple posts and videos related to capture/upload/(db update/insert) of a single (camera) image for a single record/row, but have not seen any discussion of approach where multiple (unknown quantity) of camera images must be captured and uploaded... and linked to a single record.

An analogous project/challenge may be described as follows: Car collector has entered basic identifying info for each vehicle into a table 'vehicles'. For each vehicle, collector wishes to use his phone to walk around the vehicle, taking camera captures along the way of any feature/s deemed of interest. This would continue to the vehicle interior, again taking a number (where number is unknown) of camera captures, where all need to be uploaded and linked to the vehicle record.

My goal is to implement this inflicting minimum burden on the user. Ideally, user will be free to click the "Take Photo" button, with each image then automatically being captured and uploaded to remote DB, allowing for a subsequent "Take Photo" click until perhaps click a button "Done".

The DB is MySQL, if that matters, running on on-prem Alpha Server. I have a UX currently built which captures the image and displays it in an onscreen Static Text box. But I see no easy (e.g. Action Javascript) method available to upload and link. I do not store to local (device) storage... I suspect that would be wasteful and also perhaps create greater user burden. Would I best capture the image in this fashion and then somehow implement some XBasic (AJAX)? function to move it to server DB? Just not sure which way/path to investigate here.

Looking for any ideas how to best approach this.

You are still taking the pictures one at a time. Once you have captured the image, you save it, then capture the next image.

Even if all you know how to do is display it onscreen, you can then submit the UX with javascript. Setup the UX to automatically create a new record after submit and then also use javascript to put the phone back into capture mode.

The vehicle record ID can be a session variable or a control set in the UX somewhere so you don't lose it after each save.

Does that help? Do you have a specific question about how to do any of that I can help with?

Thank you for the approach. It was not readily apparent I would need to have an existing (child table) row (with null image field) to receive the image... if that makes any sense. I was hoping I could create the new row and bind the field only after the "Capture Image" button was clicked. Will explore this approach. I sincerely appreciate your offer for continued help.
