Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

to my surprise the the AA dialog pops up and says I'm no using the latest build and 8000 is available
That has happened to me for years. Every time I upgrade to a new build, the first time I open AA it gives the warning. But only the first time. It may be because I install new builds in a new folder, so I can easily open previous versions.

I also did see I had to ensure some images permissions as they became 'Always Denied' - where it wasn't an issue earlier.

Thanks Pete, I didn't grab build 8000 until Jan 1st but did try a re-install just in case. Unfortunately, it didn't make a different in my case.

I jumped on 8000 the hour it was released - started having weird problems like Argument types not being valid etc. So the next day I closed down the whole thing and re-started, to my surprise the the AA dialog pops up and says I'm no using the latest build and 8000 is available, even though the dialog was on the same screen as the current build in use, so I exited again and ran the Universal Installer - it told me the existing build installed was 8000 and that 8000 was also in the available tab, so I re-run the install for both dev and server - then bingo - all runs smooth no issues - I think there may have been two 8000's - even though the date and time shown by the Installer as they were clearly not the same in use. Try the reinstall - see how you go.

Official Build 8000 seems to have messed up conditional formatting on my reports. Unbelievable!

This is what it should look like (note the yellow highlighted area):

This is now what it looks like in build 8000:

Did you use the universal installer? are you certain you updated both dev and server with 8000? - I've been on 7999 & 8000 for a few days since Selwyn corrected the security. Maybe let him know your issues. I'm running with any issue at this time - but keep in-mind I don't use grids or List controls.

Okay....now I seem to be back to 7902 and it is working. I don't know how or why but it is and I'm sticking with it and not attempting to upgrade.

Actually, I cannot get anything to work except to view something in working preview. I can't create a new grid using "named connection" string nor "specify a connection string".

I was using 7902, had issues but it worked. I updated to the most recent build 8000 (I also "updated" to the version before 8000) and now I cannot get any live preview to work. I try to go back to 7902 and guess what, it now doesn't work either.

When I did the update there was a button "Launch Now" so I did and it shows as 8000. If I use my icon on the Taskbar it loads and shows "You are currently running build 7902-5613 and the latest build is 8000-5628." Huh? I just updated it! Does the installer load the new version in a different directory?

I feel like I am walking on thin ice every single time I use A5, you never know if it is going to work or not. I use this personally and I had my organization move to it some years ago and I'm really sorry that I did. God forbid they ask me to update something when work starts again on January 3rd because I'll have to tell them I can't, it isn't working.

What do I do? Uninstall and re-install? If I uninstall do I need to remove the license key and if so, how?

    Thanks

From what he was indicating he wanted to get it out quickly. The nightly 7999 build done after the reported security corrections seems to work well.

Selwyn has addressed the issue, it will be in the next Stable Build Release. - He did a good job on this.
