Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Thanks Ron, I have been using a different term for that. In my toolkit, that's a WEBTOP to me.
    Anyway.
What happens if you put House Maintenance as .House Maintenance. That is with full stops either side of the text?

Not sure if this is what you are asking. This is from the desktop side. If I run the native freeform report, all is good. If I do a saveas and create a PDF report, the title is clipped. What ever tool is generating the PDF is most liking being used on the WEB side as I'm getting the same output when running the report in a browser.

Just to clarify, I'm running a ux component using a script on the desktop side.
Yes, if I use Microsoft Print to PDF, a PDF is generated, the title is not clipped. If I use the saveas option in the toolbar, the title is clipped.
If I then run the ux using localhost in a browser, the title is clipped.

So the tool Alpha is using behind the scenes to generate the PDF is clipping the title.

The issue I have been having, for some time now, is only on the server and only when the server has been running for a few hours. This is causing all sorts of issues, with having to reboot the server 2-3 times a day, I have started looking at alternatives to alpha as they do not seem to be able to resolve the issue.

                PDF issues or general issues?

If not PDF, you'd get better exposure as a separate thread.

Al, this is a PDF problem as I reported in post #2 of this thread. It has been going on since early November and it has been reported as a bug to alpha. Some of my pdf's get clipped as in Ronald's post, with half letters missing, some are totally illegible and some don't print at all. I am the only one who has access to our server in our office therefore if I am away from a computer other staff cannot print reports until I get access and restart alpha, very frustrating

Hi Lance, I'm not running from a server but from a desktop computer. I rarely do restarts as I use hibernate when I'm finished for the day. Last night I did a shut down and restart. Well, the problem has gone away for now. This seems to follow in line with what you are seeing. I will be watching to see if eventually the clipping of the title comes back. If it does I will post an update.

There is a big difference between the two, Hibernation is a state of minimal activity where everything is the system keeps it's state, this is not an ideal thing to be doing when using Windows, especially when developing as well, as Windows Resources continually consume resources once woken up, eventually things start going go wrong for no apparent reason, and its way more serious if some of the resources in use have memory leaks. Microsoft know this and fixed it by adding 'Restart' not ideal but necessary, (they used to always add a new feature when they couldn't solve a problem.) - Always better to shut down its a lot less painful.
