Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Version 8000

How is everyone getting along with Version 8000 that came out on New Years. I have it on a test server and am running one small app on it at the moment.

Seems to be working fine, but I haven't tested everything yet.

Anyone come across any issues they can share? Anyone using it in production and working fine?

Whenever I update to 8000 I become unable to Publish. When I press the Publish button I get an error message:

    "Script: a5wcb_findOrphanSecuritySettings() line:59
    Property not found.
    e[] not found."

    No clue. Rolling back.

I found the AmazonS3Indirect would not rename the thumbnail in the function, reported it an now its fixed, also there was no access to a controls value on the client side as a basis for renaming an upload file, it's been fixed, there was as issue with context.secuity which has been resolved, I have noticed there still seems to be an ussie with UX's in development where they get written over by an earlier build from a backup somehow, anyway the way around it is use save as after major changes and have a way back. The nightly release 8012 as it does the job for me in production. I plan to move to 2022 sometime today and see how that goes, that said I must say, I think the 8000+ series is a welcome series and shows a lot of promise for those wanting use javascript more in their build..

      Plus as per the release

This will prevent creating a record where one or more of the primary key columns is blank.
UX Component - Embedded Object - Pre-render Option - Panel Card - If the Panel Card that contained an embedded object was contained in a Panel Navigator and the Panel Navigator was contained in a Panel Layout, the pre-render option was not working correctly.
UX Component - Embedded Object - Pre-render Option - Panel Card - If the Panel Card in which an object is embedded is visible initially, the Pre-render option is now ignored. Previously it would cause the embedded object to be rendered twice. It is meaningless to check the Pre-render option in the first place if the embedded object was in a Panel Card that was visible initially.

I have "finally" updated to 8000 this week but it wasn't easy. A number of things broke that were previously working but I have managed to take care of most things.

One of the strangest was a list control that was filtered on an argument (username). This caused issues with several of my components.
Previously I grabbed the username from a session variable then defined the argument using a page variable.
This magically stopped working with build 8000 but I was able to make it work again by defining the argument using the built in get argument from current logged in user instead.

Another issue I had where opening a UX component for entering a new record started popping up all kinds of weird javascript errors and some javascript was not getting triggered.
The fix in this particular case was simply to recalculate all controls in the UX. Then is started work again.

Another issue I ran into where one component had a viewbox, with an icon to delete a record in the viewbox. The javascript on this one stopped working. Fix was to turn off the 'sanitize javascript' in the UX properties.

Another issue was in reports where a logic field with a color equation was displaying {image missing} for every field. This was a weird one but seemed to be caused by a field that was copied from another report (long ago),
which had an image inside it. This worked just fine in build 7582, no {image missing} messages on the report so I never noticed it as a problem before. Build 8000 didn't like it, but as soon as I removed the image inside the
field, everything was okay. This one I will chalk up as my own fault.

I have been on build 8000 now for a few days on the production system and things seem to have settled down nicely now for me.

It is but i was told it's on me and my system - I don't believe it - I thinks its a messed up backup and the new new JS editor it's very frustrating and time consuming.

I thought Alpha was going to be better at providing hotfixes for their official updates?? ...didn't someone say Alpha said as such during last DevCon? I don't see any hotfixes ... am I missing them?

It seems like the copy/paste actions for javascript actions is broken as well.

Yep.. don't stick - I spent my time in the Viewbox, and it's a very real issue. I did run the GUID utility - lots of duplicates - happens most days.
