I have a use case where I would like to have a cascading search in a grid search part. The situation is I'm working on an invoicing system for a client that rents their product to a few hundred companies and some of those companies are "parents" to "partners" who also own "sub companies" who own multiple "stores". Think auto rentals or rug shampooers in grocery stores. So the structure is below. For some companies the invoice goes to the parent, sometimes to the partner, sometimes to the sub.
parent A
___partner B
______sub C
__________store D
__________store E
______sub F
__________store G
__________store H
___partner I
______sub J
__________store K
__________store L
parent M
and so on. There are currently about 15,000 stores each with 1 or 2 products and they are constantly adding and closing stores and also renting and returning products and transferring rental products from one store to another. Most rental agreements are billed monthly and every sub has its own invoicing day. Very messy. I cannot change the structure of the business.
So, for creating invoices, I have a grid with a search part where I can search by parent and optionally partner, sub and store. The invoices are then created based on the results of the search. That lets me create from 1 to a few hundred invoices at a time, and the client is happy with that. It works, but I'd like to have the seach cascade so the store list isn't 15,000 items long. So, for example if I select parent A, then the partner dropdown only shows B and I. If I pick B then the sub dorpdown only shows C and F.
Does anyone know how to make the search cascade based on the selection in a previous search?
Thanks, Pat
