Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

The folder C:\A5Webroot\XX does not exist. Create folder? (How to stop this?)

I recently updated the version to 8900 (Developer & App Server), and now I am getting this message every time I try to publish files in any of my applications, but I can't figure out why. For example, one of my apps is located in F:\A5W\FireStat, and the target folder in the Project Profile shows \FireStat, but as soon as I click publish, I get the message shown below. If I answer "NO," it won't publish anything. How can I stop it from asking me that? (These applications have been live for years in the F:\A5W folders, so I haven't changed anything.)

Why is the f:\ARW in the document root of the server and not x:\A5Webroot where x = drive name? not a good idea changing the A5Wwebroot name - why would you do that?

Actually, I don't remember why I did that, but it's been that way for about 10 years and has never had a problem until I performed the update.

I would recommend you send a bug report into Alpha, see what they have to say about it.

For now, you might have to publish to the directory Alpha wants to, then manually copy the files to the directory you actually need them in.

          Hi,
Are you sure the f:\arw folder is accessible from the server?
I think I run into similar issue when trying to publish to a lan folder and the lan was not accessible.
not sure that this is the issue but worth taking a look at it. Maybe the windows security setting has changed for that folder after a windows update.

Thanks everyone, I have it working now. It was a combination of things, but the main issue is that when I performed the update, the Alpha Updater automatically placed the files in a different folder than where it was normally stored. The folks at Alpha Software ran some checks, found the problem, and helped me fix it.

            Working fine now.

Thanks, I have what I believe is a similar issue. Could you elaborate on where it was putting the files and where they normally are or should be

              Thanks again

In my case, the Alpha Anywhere Updater had somehow changed the default location of my files to:
                Screen Shot 04-03-22 at 10.52 PM.jpg

When all my application files are actually located at:
                Screen Shot 04-03-22 at 10.57 PM.jpg

So essentially what had happened was that I now had applications files it two different locations, which was confusing the Application Server, so it wanted to keep creating a new webroot folder. Once I manually changed the location in the Updater, then updated the files at the correct location, that issue disappeared, and it no longer asked me to create a new webroot folder. Instead, it used my previously established webroot location.

Hopefully your problem is as easily corrected.
