Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Session Variabes in V12

    I have some session variables on an a5w page that uploads files submitted by users after doing some checks. The code I am using is for the session lookup is
    Code:
    tbl=table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\registration.dbf",FILE_RW_SHARED)
    tbl.change_begin()
    vUserFolder_name=alltrim(lookupc("F",alltrim(session.__protected__Puser.Ulink),"Folder_name","registration","Employer_Id"))
    . Howeve, I am getting an internal server error "vUserFolder_name=alltrim(lookupc("F",alltrim(session.__protected__Puser.Ulink),"
    Property not found
    session.__protected__Puser subelement not found". Is there a way to refence values from a table based on the session?

    How and where is that session variable set? Are you sure that the session has not expired between that time and when your page with this code was executed?

    Also there is no need to use the __protected__ syntax any more. All session variables are always protected "protected".

      I have uploaded an attachment of the my settings for the session variable. I load the page then begin the operation immediately as the user is still logged in.
      I am getting another error now, it seems like the session variable value is not being captured. The message being returned is
      "500 Internal Server Error

      Script Error
      Error:Script:" /fileupload.a5w" line:115
      file.from_blob("C:\Name of folder for uploads"+" "+session.__protected__vUserAddress+ "\"+vU
      The system cannot find the path specified.
      C:"Name of folder for uploads" \/123456.c3"

      Based on the above message the session variable should return a country name So it should read
      "500 Internal Server Error

      Script Error
      Error:Script:" /fileupload.a5w" line:115
      file.from_blob("C:\Name of folder for uploads"+" "+session.__protected__vUserAddress+ "\"+vU
      The system cannot find the path specified.
      "C:\Name of folder for uploads \Brazil\filesuploaded/123456.c3"

      I am using the following code where it throws the exception
      Code:
      file.from_blob("C:\Name of folder for uploads"+" "+session.__protected__vUserAddress+ "\\"+vUserFolder_name+ "/"+FileToUpload.filename, FileToUpload.data)
      The session.__protected__vUserAddress ahould contain the Country name based on the logged in user. and the "vUserFolder_name" is also retrieved based on the logged in user.
      The thing is, this was working perfectly fine under version 10 and stopped since I upgraded to v12.

      What I need is a way to capture the session variable as I am using it to write to the folder and and I am also doing some file validations.

        Your application is very old and much has changed in the Application Server in the intervening years. You may need to update portions of your application. I cannot duplicate this in a test application built from scratch in Alpha Anywhere. If you have a reproducible test case, please submit a bug report with the files needed to create the error.

          Figured I had to make some adjustments. I tried the code below. It shows the logged in user but not the session.address. What am I missing?

          Code:
          dim session.address as c
          dim Puser as p

          a5ws_logged_in_user_values(pUser) 'gets logged in user data to pointer 'pUser'.
          if variable_exists("pUser.userid")
          session.address= lookupc("F",alltrim(Puser.userid),"country","[pathalias.adb_path]/registration","Employer_Id")

          ? pUser.userid
          ? session.address

          end if

            You don't need to dim session variables. If you want to create one write: context.session.YOUR_VAR_NAME_HERE

            In your case context.session.address. That may not even be your issue. It could be your lookup isn't returning what you expect. Place a debug(1) at the top of your code and run it again.

              received the attached messages after running debug. the session doesn't seem to be returning anything. How can I be certain that the lookup is finding my table?

                Going from v10 to v12 is going to be a chore. This is a task where a developer needs to be hired or start over from scratch and rebuild your app in v12.

                That said the first error means that variable doesn't exist. There is no way for me to debug your code so what might be going on is a mystery.

                  I created a new workspace and republished security. For some reason it appears as though the security users table was not being updated. The fileupload works fine now.

                  Thanks for all the help.
