Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    dropdown controls re-populated automatic problem

    I have two dropdownbox controls. Assume that they are Country and City.
    When the value is changed in the parent dropdown - Country, the child dropdown City is automatically re-populated.

    It's ok to manually entries. But there is one option in form that the user can search for one customer and choose it.
    In this case I set both of controls with the result of search using one javascript.

    The problem is the value of search for the child dropdown control is cleaned for the automaticy action of re-populated and then the control value is empty. The data searched was lost.

    Is there a way to disable re-populated action for a while?

    Regards,

    Re: dropdown controls re-populated automatic problem

    I would try a delay on the setting of the child dropdown. Set the parent... but then let everything settle down, and then set the child.

    This will delay setting the child for 200ms. Decrease/Increase the timing until it's working the way you want. (E&OE - I typed from memory)

    setTimeout(function(){
    {dialog.Object}.setValue("childDropdown",childValue);
    },200);

      Thanks David, I forgot to say I just have one similar workaround (with setTimeout). But sometimes it didn't work because the re-populated callback childdropdown delay more than the timeout configured in setTimeout. Is there another way?

        Re: dropdown controls re-populated automatic problem

        Try this and see if it's any better. This gets you closer to the time the child dropdown is re-populated. The problem is that after the ajaxcall callback is made to get the child dropdown data, A5.form.populateSelect is called to re-populate the dropdown. If setTimeout is called before the Ajax Callback, then you've got to figure out how long your callback will take etc... which is tough because you're going out to the server. If you call setTimeout once you're back in the client, then stuff is going to happen very fast... and so it should work reliably. Put this into the UX Client-side afterAjaxCallbackComplete event...

        Code:
        if(this._focusControl=='DD1'){
        	if(e.xbasicFunctionName =='system:cascadingDropdown'){
        		if(e.ajaxEvent=='AjaxCallback'){
        			setTimeout(function(){
        				{dialog.Object}.setValue('dd2','asdf');
        			},500);
        		}
        	}
        }
        Here we're checking the control... since you may only want this to happen on 1 out of n dropdowns. Change the control name from DD1 to your control name. Next we're checking to see what function was called and just veriyfing that it was an Ajax Callback. I'm not sure if all this is required... or even if the order is correct... but... what the heck. After this event fires, the A5.form.populateSelect fires, populating the dropdown. A setTimeout should work nicely as this point.
