Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

UX Integrated Login Functionality Problems - 8099

Before I get all wound up, I wanted to ask if any of you have been using the "Integrated Login" functionality of the UX component successfully.

Specifically, I have a mobile app with a large deployment that is right now working fine on 6699 (as I've posted before). I've tried to upgrade it to Version 7295, 8099 and some others, but no matter which server I try the app freezes after clicking the Login button. I've done some troubleshooting and found that the app isn't even getting to the Server Side "OnLoginEvent". Just stops dead. The Login button works in that I can put an alert message or even a focus message in the onClick JS event and the event fires, but any attempt to insert {dialog.Object}.login() meets with no success.

Again, this app consists of ONE UX, no separate login dialog, using the "Integrated Login" feature, set to focus to another panel after login. I've actually gone so far as to start a whole new Workspace and create a brand new UX and every control needed to login, nothing else, and the UX STILL won't get as far as the onLogin event.

If someone tells me that yes, they're running a single component UX mobile app using (integrated) login successfully post-6699 then I'll just resume hitting my head against the wall. Otherwise, I'll need to see if I can submit my barebones example to Alpha as a possible "bug". I don't want them to debug my app, but I am a reasonably intelligent individual and can't see what I'm doing wrong (although I freely admit it could be me, EVERYTHING is obvious in retrospect).

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Yes. I've just recently helped a client with a single mobile UX that uses integrated login functionality. They are on a nightly build beyond 8099 at this point.

Have you recalculated all controls after a version update? Over the years there have been some updates that required this step. Maybe try making shorter version jumps. I seem to recall 7086 being a very stable version. Are there any JavaScript errors in the console?

Thank you, that helped quite a bit. I looked around some more and, of course, found the initial problem: UX component was not enabled in Security. :( In my defense, however, it did get as far as the login screen (i.e. processed the Login button push) but stopped dead as if there were JS errors.

On the down side, the only reason I started to experiment was because it was reported, among other things, that the main list control (i.e. the one that becomes active right after login) was showing multiple copies of each record. Turns out this occurs when a user refreshes (reloads) the browser while accessing the detail view. After refresh the login page comes up, user relogs in and then the multiples start appearing. Each refresh (and subsequent login) adds one more copy. This, however, is on a different topic so I will look into it some more (search for answers as to what happens when a mobile browser page is reloaded) and post if necessary.

Again, thanks for taking the time to respond.

YES I have had problems with the UX login. It kicks a 500 error when clicking the button with login() function.

Here is the error I get, perhaps that is the same as yours. But I am in an odd position testing between the stable and other nightly builds. I also cannot create a working 2FA form, but I am not at a point where I can send it as a bug.

Well, as I say, I have had multiple issues with the integrated login, some my fault, some maybe not. The initial one was that I didn't set security properly on the UX, but got no message to that effect when running the component, it just hung. OK, pilot error. The others are not related to the login; One was the multiple loading of list data, I just set Properties to NOT restore list data from storage, seemed to have cleared that up (with no negative side-effects), no idea why. The last is image-related (reference mab's post above): When I am setting up a FormView (tied to a list) with an embedded picture and click "Allow Image Capture" I get my "pointer not found" error message (explained in another post). In this case I DID manage to cobble up a basic test case which seemingly reproduced the problem and sent it in as a possible bug to Alpha a week ago today. Still waiting for a response from Alpha (who, to be fair, probably get a lot of bug reports). I just need to know if it's again pilot error or if they managed to reproduce it.

The other errors with 8099 seem to come and go.

I have to say this just leaves me speechless after all these years - something that is so easy - so fundamental has been made so difficult and unreliable to seasoned developers.
