Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: iis setup problem(s)

iis supports extensionless pages & offers very powerful url rewriting so a user may browse to "domain.com/page" which will then be passed on by IIS to the AA plugin as "domain.com/page.a5w" , the user won't see the extension in his browser address bar.

After acquiring and installing the A5 JQCalendar update. Everything works on the iis server just like it does on the alpha web server.

Just an update. I have been using the IIS server beta for my desktop web app for several days. I have come across several small bumps that require a little tweaking. I am sure Alpha will get everything worked out. Other than that it works just like the alpha web server, only faster.

Frank, are these small bumps worth elaborating on?
I've upgraded my JQCalendar so it should be good to go. And just received my IIS server license so I can start on this next week, hopefully.

I'm likely looking at a clean install since we want to move from Server 2008 to 2012.

                    Re: iis setup problem(s)

The issues I had are probably more to with the way in which I do things than bugs because I can change my method a little and it works with the IIS server. They work OK unchanged with the Alpha server, live preview, and working preview. That's one of the problems with Alpha there are usually several ways to accomplish a task, some are better than others. It often takes me a while to figure out which ways are the best.
One example is that I had a syntax error that has been in my app for a long time and it did not throw any errors until I used the IIS server. You talk about scary errors the IIS server can show some intimidating errors. The good side is that I have been able to search the internet and get information that has helped me resolve most of them.
Also there are some things that will be different for sure, like security and some other IIS things.
I would definitely recommend that you you do a side by side before going full blast because I probably use less than 1/4 of the features available in Alpha. Your actual mileage may vary.

Is anyone using the url rewrite module? When I use it the url is rewritten OK but the formatting of the page is lost. It seems like the css is lost.

I tested it & I don't remember having had that issue; how does the path to your css files gets rewritten ? Probably some issue there.

Thanks Frank. It looks like from your response that there is more to using feature than just creating a simple rule. I will have to look into this further.

So, we have our application running now under IIS on Windows Server 2012. Had some minor issues trying to get publishing to work but that's all sorted out now.

A couple of things I've noticed:
                            1. It seems the existing security settings did not get transferred correctly to the Alpha Server IIS. At least it doesn't seem to be honoring the existing component security settings. Any of you guys run into this?
                            2. Non of my file download links are working at the moment. They were set up in the Developer using File Download Action Scripting and Referenced Filenames. Clicking on a file comes back with "File Not Found".

Hey Guys I was wondering if anyone else had licensing problems. When I go to add the license I get an error message saying "Object reference not set to an Instance of an object". I also get this same message when trying to add the license. Could someone please give me a few pointers on how to get around this.

                                Re: iis setup problem(s)

I'm still trying to get this to work too. Finally can publish and bring up the login page. But now authorization/authentication stuff I don't know how to resolve. In the IIS model, the security, as I understand it, is run a little more separately than we're used to. So I'm getting nothing but unsuccessful logins. Like most existing Alpha developers' apps, my security in my current app is in the same database, so I should be able to migrate. But this isn't straight forward and I apparently need some additional facilities in IIS that I don't understand how to construct. Here's what Alpha tells me I need to do, but I don't know how to follow along:

your connection string use integrated authentication. The application pool starts a process w3wp.exe that processes requests. This process runs as "Application Pool Identity" by default. This tells IIS to create a virtual account named "IIS APPPOOL\<name of application pool>" and run the w3wp.exe process as that virtual account. This is the account that is used when accessing the OEDB Prototype1 database. This account most likely does not have access to that database. In your case SqlServer is located on the same machine as IIS so you can add the "IIS APPPOOL\<name of application pool>" account to access OEDB Prototype1. It will also need to be assigned the aspnet* roles.
Anyone know what/where/how? I can't figure it out, and this process is just dragging out further every day I wait, try, ask questions, wait, try, repeat.
