Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • UX App Question

I am new to the UX arena with several working grids as projects. I create a mobile UX with 3 panels and for the most part works as the clients EXCEPT one of the fields to search for data, they want to use the Barcode scanner on the phone. I added this feature to my project, but when i publish it and use the link (.a5w) in my phone, the trigger for the barcode scanner says "no phonegap". Can someone lead me in the right direction to get the mobile device to utilize its barcode scanner.

    Good morning!

The Barcode Scanner feature only works in a Cordova mobile app. You will need to either deploy the app as an Alpha Launch application or a mobile app built using Cordova CLI or Ionic Appflow to utilize the barcode scanner.

Thanks for your response. I started looking at the alpha launch and was wondering if this would work where i have created an app for a local company that probably 10 or 15 employees will need to use the same app or do i need to go to a Cordova mobile app for this.

If Alpha Launch includes all the plugins you need for your application, it's a fine solution. If it doesn't, then you'll either need to build a Cordova mobile app or contact us for a custom Alpha Launch that has what you need.

I recommend testing your app in Alpha Launch to see if it will work for you. If it does, then you're good to go to publish your apps to the application server and start using them in Alpha Launch. We have a webinar coming up in a few weeks where we're going to do another demo of Alpha Launch as a follow on to one we did May 2021. I recommend watching last year's webinar to get started: https://youtu.be/ggt5cxMa040

Yes. "phonegap-plugin-barcodescanner" is one of the plugins included in Alpha Launch. You can view the list of plugins in Alpha Launch by clicking on Settings located at the bottom of the main screen. Tap the "Show Support Settings" switch. Then select "List Plug-ins". The plugins may change when we publish updates to the app.

Your video did the job. i was able to get my app up on alpha launch and a few users were able to download the app and use their barcode scanner. good news is the barcode scanner on the android pulls up, scans the 1d code, but does not populate any of teh fields until they press and hold on the field and paste . While this works fine for them, the apple uses dont have that option and the scan results does not populate the field. Am i missing a step to post the scan data. Thanks For you help with Alpha launch . this is much better for an internal app that would be too tedious to go thru the google play store or Apple
