Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Alpha API Integrations - Full List

    Hi Everyone,

I have taken advantage of some of the existing Alpha API integration's out there but there are a lot more I would love to see. To get started I have made a list of some of the API integration's that I have worked with so far (with a rating on how complete they are) as well as some on my wish list. Are there any I am missing?

    Existing API Integration's:

    1) Authorize.net for payment processing (comes with Alpha software, full integration)
    2) WorldPay for payment processing (comes with Alpha software, full integration)
    3) PayPal shopping cart (third party product from Steve Wood, full integration)
    4) Mandrill for email servers (comes with Alpha software, full integration)
    5) Twilio (voice and text messaging). There is a post on the message board on how to send a text message using a cURL command. Very useful but not a full integration. You can find the link here.
    6) Twitter. Alpha software includes a demo UX that shows how to build feeds into your App.
    7) Google Maps - Alpha software comes with multiple integration points.

Below is a wish list of API Integration's I would love to see...

    1) Quickbooks online
    2) Stripe
    3) Online iCAL feed
    4) Facebook
    5) Dropbox

Alpha does provide multiple options to build your own API integration (i.e with cURL or Node) but that type of programming isn't my specialty so its great to have off the shelf solutions. Node integration seem very promising since you can add the Node files directly to the Alpha server directly, but when I download them they come in multiple files and I can't seem to figure out how to call them properly.

Please let me know if I am missing anything and would be great to hear other suggestions!

    Cheers,

    Scott

I did look at the video on Stripe and it looks cool, but is there any documentation on calling the API in xBasic. The wizard for setting up Stripe is pretty limited. For example, how would you process a credit card from xBasic and get the results back while dynamically populating the Stripe access info?

                Hi Mike,

Thanks I did see that video, but it covers the wizard for setting up a checkout. I was looking to call the Stripe API functions directly from xBasic and get a response back, sort of how you can call Authorize.net...

DEVCON 2015 will have some great subjects incl. Node see Node as the goal keeper for the future A5 team made great progressive steps. Most important notice from Selwyn at DEVCON 2014 is the roadmap and transition Xbasic--> JS converters that is a huge and very complex task. In time the options to easy embed externals will grow once the core is ready to handle. Until that time you have to be a little patient unless you want to become a code monkey vs. your own word i like it the easy way for that reason you become a A5 developer.
