Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Current User

    Hi Guys,
    Im alittle confused by this one.
    Im calling the a5ws_getcurrentuser() as the default in a text field.
    After log in through a browser i get the user name as expected. But when used through a mobile app built with cordova i get nothing.

    Ive also tried using some code that was provided in some docs to call the user name or show "no logged in user"
    again through a browser i get the username but through the app (which does have a login component) i get no user.

    any help would be great. Im totally stumped.

    Thanks
    Roland

    Not sure if this is the Alpha preferred way or if someone has a better way, but I always just set a local storage variable upon login and read from it if I need the current user.

      Thanks for the Reply Rusty. Could you please give me a idea of how you set the variable on login.

        Sure. If you are using the Alpha method for logging in, you may have used the Persistent Login template. In which case you likely have an XBasic function called xbLogin as c (e as p). In it you will see where the user name gets set
        Code:
        username = e.datasubmitted.userid
        Then at the very end of this function, you will see a section where you can create a Javascript response to send back to the client. You can use code similar to the following.
        Code:
        jsOut = jsOut + "localStorage.setItem('userid', '" + js_escape(userName) + "');"
        You can then read the local storage variable anytime in your app
        Code:
        localStorage.getItem('userid')
        Hope this is helpful.

            ok ive found the onLogin xbasic function on the server side events (Sorry its late, really should have know that) I am missing something tho.
            I have added the code
            jsOut = jsOut + "localStorage.setItem('userid', '" + js_escape(userName) + "');"

            but i get an error (userName) variable not found

                  Interesting. When I do a brand new ux it is there for me. Perhaps you chose another template when you set up your security initially

                    Well, regardless you can do something similar, but it would have to be on the Client-side afterLogin. For example

                    Code:
                    {dialog.object}.setValue('userID', e.userNameFriendly, false);
                    For this to work, I believe you would have to set the Server-side onLogin userrNameFriendly
                    Code:
                    e.userNameFriendly = e.username

                      yes you are correct. Turns out i had used the Non persistent template and had just turned on the options in properties.
                      Thanks for the help Rusty, Ill get some sleep and come back to tackle it again in the morning. Alpha and no sleep don't seem to mix very well :)

                            ok so for some reason im still struggling with this and it really should be this hard.
                            I have put the code into the xbasic function on the login component

                            Then in the on render completed event i have add just something basic that should pull the local storage and fill the Field 'GuardUser' with the userId

                            But it does nothing and the field stay black.

                            What have i missed?

                              It might be a timing issue. When does onRenderComplete fire. If you aren't sure, put a console log to be sure it is actually firing when you think it is.

                              You can put any Javascript in the jsOut of xbLogin. Why not just do
                              Code:
                              jsOut = jsOut + "{dialog.object}.setValue('GuardUser', '" + js_escape(userName) + "');"
