Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    oops - the attachment

      I understand.
I do not know of an external software I'd recommend importing into an Alpha page. This is way before me. I'd personally be afraid of what has changed in Chrome/IE alone, since your Alpha version.

Hi Russell. Thanks for the interest. I shall persevere until hopefully a future update will fix the table problems. I'm currently trying to produce what I want via the Alpha Page Layout component. It gets me three quarters of the way there, apart from the fact that I can't figure how to place a component in the centre of a web page - unless I put it in a table... They just always are biased to the left of the screen

What about approaching it from the other side.
Use something like Mobirise for the static pages, with links to your alpha stuff?
In Expression4 it would be ever easier.

I'm afraid I'm not really understanding the problem though. Are the tables simply to capture details of people who are interested?

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.

No no Ted - I've misled you regarding the tables. Please see the attached mock page that I have made, which hopefully outlines what I'm trying to do

I think you would benefit in some interactive table building outside of AA to make your temples then just paste them in to your AA page.

Here is a builder select your table then you will see the generated css below the advertisements. Just copy an paste it.

also this tutorial - same thing copy and paste and understand table structure.

Again, using Expression4 free stuff, creating this type of table is easy. There is wysiwyg and also the code used to build it. 3 tabs with all the info you need. Now I understand what you mean by "tables" a code builder will save you using the head banger.

Would you like some sample code to try?

Can you put a set of tables in an IFrame?
Just a suggestion, I don't use Alpha for Web stuff.

Thanks very much for the tips. I shall explore both options this evening and tomorrow

every once in a while it's better to give us the basic component so we can actually
experience what you're up against and hopefully find a solution.
is a great site to test and share sql code

I did try to explain my problem, but obviously not very well. However, the Microsoft Expression Web 4 suggested by Ted looks to be exactly what I need! In just a few short minutes I had inserted a table onto a page and populated it, sized it, positioned it, inserted text and images - all with the greatest of ease. In fact the table operation is almost identical to Alpha. I copied the HTML onto a blank Alpha page and it worked perfectly. I only have one item to solve, and that is that my images didn't appear. I'm guessing I'll have to import those images into Alpha or place them in my webroot or something, but I'm confident it will be a simple enough task. (I haven't even begun to read the manual yet). So it looks like I'm back in the business of creating my web pages. So pleased! Many thanks to all of those that have offered help and advice
