Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    SparkPost Help Appreciated

    Hello,

    I am likely missing something very straightforward in getting SparkPost to function, but it has eluded me so far.

    I created a simple UX with two buttons, one using an Ajax callback and the following Xbasic:

    function emailSend as c (e as p)
    dim ms as p
    ms.send_to = "[email protected]"
    ms.from_email = "My SparkPost Account Email"
    ms.subject = "Greetings!"
    ms.message_text = "Hello there!"
    dim key as c = "My SP Secret Key"
    dim result as p
    result = email_send_sparkpost(key,ms)
    end function

    Note that all email addresses are valid in my actual code, as is the secret key.

    I receive an Ajax completed message but nothing from SparkPost

    The second button uses the Send email Action Javascript with SparkPost parameters and Text input. With the Action Javascript nothing happens....no confirmation message, success or failure.

    I confirmed that my SparkPost account is live and verified the DKIM entry again to be sure. I deleted the first API key and created another to ensure I copied it correctly. The SparkPost Usage page doesn't show an email injection let alone a send.

    In Web Project Properties, Cooked SameSite value is None.

    Any thoughts/advice is appreciated.

    Hi Joe

    I use a different technique using email_smtp_open() and email_smtp_send() which works for me note also I am in the UK so am using the eu.sparkpost.com setup so the built in action javascript does not work:

    Code:
    dim result as l
    dim pm as p
    dim ps as p

    pm.to         = [email protected]"
    pm.bcc         = "xxx.com"
    pm.cc        = ""
    pm.subject     = "Subject Name"
    pm.html_message     = "email body"
    pm.attachments = savebook 'variable from pdf created earlier in the script
    pm.from_alias = "Domain on sparkpost"
    pm.from = "[email protected]"

    result = email_smtp_open(ps,"smtpname",587,"SMTP_Injection","key")

    if result = .f. then
        args.Set("how_notified","** Email FAILED")
        cn.Execute(qry2,args)
        err = error_code_get()
        sc_log_add("Email Failed: " + result + " for " + rs.data("email") + " error " + error_text_get(err) )
    else
        args.Set("how_notified","Email Sent")
        cn.Execute(qry2,args)
    '    sc_log_add("Email Sent: " + result + " for " + rs.data("email") )
    end if

    result = email_smtp_send(pm,ps)

      message_html is a required field according to the doc.

      We no longer use the alpha function as we're based in the UK and use an EU account on sparkpost. We use email_smtp_open() and email_smtp_send() within the code below...
      Code:
      FUNCTION E_Send_SparkPost AS C (email_to as C, email_subject as C, email_message as C, email_html_message as C, email_attachments as C)

      dim result as C
      dim ps as p
      dim pm as p
      dim API_key as C = "myAPIkey"
      dim email_images as C = ""
      dim email_from as C = "myfrom@mydomain"
      dim email_alias as C = "my friendly name"

      result = email_smtp_open(ps, "smtp.sparkpostmail.com", 587, "SMTP_Injection",API_key, "STARTTLS")
      if result then
          pm.from = email_from
          pm.from_alias = email_alias
          pm.to = email_to
          pm.subject = email_subject
          pm.message = email_message
          pm.attachments = email_attachments
          pm.html_message = email_html_message
          pm.inlineImages = email_images
          'HTML msg not required with email_smtp_send, but set lRelated flag to 'T' if defined
          if email_html_message <> "" then
              pm.lRelated = .T.
          else
              pm.lRelated = .F.
          end if
          result = email_smtp_send(pm,ps)
      end if

      result = ps.buffer
      pp=email_smtp_close(ps)
      E_Send_SparkPost = result
      END FUNCTION
      I have modified the target to smtp.sparkpostmail.com in case you wish to use this.

        Thank you! Glenschild also responded with the UK version which does work for the US as well. I do appreciate the addition of the inlineImages line as that will be a downstream addition.

        Again, thank you.
