The Alpha Software Forum Participation Guidelines

The Alpha Software Forum is a free forum created for Alpha Software Developer Community to ask for help, exchange ideas, and share solutions. Alpha Software strives to create an environment where all members of the community can feel safe to participate. In order to ensure the Alpha Software Forum is a place where all feel welcome, forum participants are expected to behave as follows:
  • Be professional in your conduct
  • Be kind to others
  • Be constructive when giving feedback
  • Be open to new ideas and suggestions
  • Stay on topic


Be sure all comments and threads you post are respectful. Posts that contain any of the following content will be considered a violation of your agreement as a member of the Alpha Software Forum Community and will be moderated:
  • Spam.
  • Vulgar language.
  • Quotes from private conversations without permission, including pricing and other sales related discussions.
  • Personal attacks, insults, or subtle put-downs.
  • Harassment, bullying, threatening, mocking, shaming, or deriding anyone.
  • Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.
  • Sexually explicit or violent material, links, or language.
  • Pirated, hacked, or copyright-infringing material.
  • Encouraging of others to engage in the above behaviors.


If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
  • Remove the Post or Thread - the content is removed from the forum.
  • Place the User in Moderation - all posts and new threads must be approved by a moderator before they are posted.
  • Temporarily Ban the User - user is banned from forum for a period of time.
  • Permanently Ban the User - user is permanently banned from the forum.


Moderators may also rename posts and threads if they are too generic or do not property reflect the content.

Moderators may move threads if they have been posted in the incorrect forum.

Threads/Posts questioning specific moderator decisions or actions (such as "why was a user banned?") are not allowed and will be removed.

The owners of Alpha Software Corporation (Forum Owner) reserve the right to remove, edit, move, or close any thread for any reason; or ban any forum member without notice, reason, or explanation.

Community members are encouraged to click the "Report Post" icon in the lower left of a given post if they feel the post is in violation of the rules. This will alert the Moderators to take a look.

Alpha Software Corporation may amend the guidelines from time to time and may also vary the procedures it sets out where appropriate in a particular case. Your agreement to comply with the guidelines will be deemed agreement to any changes to it.



Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Subscription Information.

    Subscription Information.

    Every time I open developer I am usually prompted to upgrade to the latest version. While at the same time there is a warning message stating if my subscription may not include the latest version.

    Why cant this prompt be changed to scan our license and present one of three options.

    1. You do not have the latest version installed and your license supports for you to upgrade to this version follow this link to upgrade now.

    2. You do not have the latest version, you license does not support this upgrade - click here to renew you subscription.

    3. Continue without upgrading.

    I am currently not sure whether I can upgrade or not? My subscription should still be good for a while, but what if it is not, I could upgrade to find out, but what is the process to undo this install, hours lost in production time, and potential problems reverting back???? Because I wasn't really covered for this version.

    I'm sure I must not be the only person in this situation. How easy it would be to have a option as I have suggested above, Alpha need to make it easier to see what the users are subscribed too and what versions the user is versions you are covered for.

    Just saying,,,, What are your thoughts?

    I'm with you on this. They can take it one more step and close the gap by either adding a "Check your status" message or outright checking for you and dynamically populating your News & Updates appropriately.

    For the record, however, there is a link in the "About Alpha Anywhere" dialog that you can follow to check your subscription information. I've found it to be somewhat adequate for validating my assumptions. The link for checking subscription information is new in Alpha Anywhere. They added it somewhere between converting their licensing system to some new thing (remember the emails? I do!) and just now.

        Thanks for your comments, but I still ask the question why offer a upgrade to someone, with them potentially being locked out of the system, with-out first letting them know that they are covered for it.
        What if customer upgrades and gets stuck, likely option is to pay the upgrade cost to get a quick fix,
        With all the leading edge functionality Alpha offers, one would think things like this should be easy to do.
        Having bought several subscriptions over the last few years it easy to lose track of which subscription is valid etc. As far as I can see there is no way of logging into your account and getting a clear picture of what you have paid for and how long you are covered and for what versions? If you purchase a subscription before current one runs out, does it extend after the expiry date of the old subscription or straight after purchase date of the new subscription?
        I hope Alpha can spend some time in getting this process updated, so if the customer can to be on top of their license?
        Unless I'm missing something.

            That screen already checks your subscription status. If your subscription does not entitle you to the update, there is additional warning text that the update is available but you cannot use it. So if you simply see a message saying thee is an update and there is no warning, you are able to use it.

            It is obvious however from the feedback here that the messaging is not clear enough and there is some confusion anyway. We will work on making it more clear.

              The message on the News and Updates has a checkbox that says "Automatically check for news and updates on startup", but checking the box doesn't do what the message says. It doesn't update to today unless there is a new version or you click "Check for news and updates now". So, you should either change the process or change the message. It is annoying to have the "check automatically" box checked and not have it do an update every morning!

                For me, I second guess myself when I see the message "IMPORTANT: You must be a subscriber with an active subscription in order to use a product update." I know my subscription is good for a while yet, so this message is very confusing.

                  where do you go to update your subscription? also, they no longer sell the desktop only version, and you cannot update the desktop only version - you have to update to the whole monty - very expensive!!!!!!!!

                    I also thought that one day when I realized that you can do almost anything with the developer because you can interact with nodejs using xbasic -script. So you can use it as a desktop software like excel or whatever.
                    But for that purpose very expensive tool especially if you buy to hole office team.
