Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Phonegap issues

I have an app that has been working well for some time but has now stopped working in phonegap. When I edit a record in the browser everything works fine however, when I do the same on a device using the phonegap version the edit appears to save on the device but when I return to the list view and then back to the detail view the edits disappear. I have programmed a refresh button for use when first starting up the app to ensure the latest data is loaded. I also have the usual save and synchronize buttons. The save button is programmed to save and push the data back to the server if there is a connection. The synchronize button is only required if data is entered and saved while there is no connection, the button is used to synchronize when the connection is reestablished. I have tried updating the phonegap version to 3.70 with no change.

I have had a number of issues like this where functionality that has worked fine stops for no reason and I have to rebuild the components from scratch (I don't trust the backups since I don't know exactly when the issues occurred). The rebuilds are exact copies of the original components but for some reason they return to a working state. This is a very unsatisfactory scenario that defies logic and is hard to explain to a client with a deployed application.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

I'm still having problems with this. I have tried numerous adjustments but to no avail. It appears that the "Save" and "Synchronize" buttons are not executing on the tablet which has to be related to Phonegap.

No changes to the Alpha Build version? What Alpha Build are you using? I doubt, given no changes to the UX, no changes to the Server version, that a PhoneGap Build app would just stop working. Where is the server? Local?

        Hello David,

I have changed the build version it's the current Tablet Beta (build 3038, system Addins 4527) but these problems presented prior to the upgrade. Application server build 2689-4440 (I note that there is an update to this). the server is hosted on Zebrahost.

Whatever was going on prior to your upgrading is now compromised. Now you start from scratch. If you can show a once working, now non-working PGB app, having made no changes to the published UX or the Server... then that's something to go on.

            Re: Phonegap issues

I just upgraded the server version and most of the functionality returned. Based on this experience I suspect that I need to reinstall the current full release development environment on my machine or load the corresponding server for the tablet beta build to get everything working properly.

Your development and server Alpha build versions must be the same.

Thanks David. I've been quite sloppy in keeping up with my "admin" including updates and particularly the "Management of Change" process. I have neglected to document everything, there never seems to be enough time but I've learned my lesson.
