Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Ux for specific record

I have almost completed the build of the new record ux, which sends an email. In the email I want to include a url that would be a link to open the existing record but a different ux also this would be via the app launcher.
What suffix do I add to url
Will this just pass through the app launcher
How do I filter the ux to show the record
The field to select the record, is called quoteno
    Thanks
    Terry

    Re: Ux for specific record

I have set the primary key on the ux so it is now showing existing records with a filter.
So now I just need to know how to get the variable into the url, through the app launcher & then into the filter on the ux.
    Thanks

I am sure more experienced members will give better solutions, but you could build the URL with javascript so it ends with a page variable - ?quoteno={quoteno}. Filter the UX on an argument set to take its value from the page variable.

Will that page variable carry through the app launcher to the ux component?
        I will try it anyway

          Re: Ux for specific record

I have never used the app launcher but as long as the components are loading into the same a5w page, the page variable should be available to all UXs. If the URL does change, since the variable is available to the app launcher UX, you should be able to create a session variable from the page variable.

You might want to begin testing not with the "generated" page variable but with the app launcher to see if you can get it to read and use the variable. Just add
?quoteno=abc to the URL after doing a preview of the a5w page and hit enter (if the preview URL already contains a ? add "&quoteno=abc"). Of course, save and preview the components before previewing the page to be sure it is using the correct versions. I found this to be a much easier way to test page variables with less moving parts.

Let us know if this works.

How do I set a session variable from the url/page variable and how is this then applied as a filter?
            Thanks

As I have said, I have not used the app launcher so I am not sure how to set a session variable from there. Opening a component with other components it is simple as there is a set session variable function. Perhaps someone can tell us how to set it from the app launcher. I did a quick test and I see that the way the launcher opens components, the component does not take the page variable. Once either a page variable or session variable is available, filtering on it requires In component properties, set an argument to take its value from the variable and then in the server side onload action set the filter so the field = the argument.
