Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Signature Capture - not working in List control Detail View

    Hey There,

Thank you for taking the time to look. It's appreciated.

Have you used a signature capture control in a list controls detail view?

We are having issues with it.
    1. Unless values have a default value, the list detail causes an error if a value goes from null to an actual value. This means we're having to ensure all fields have a default value upon saving. The error is something along the lines of 'could not find data/record'
    2. The signature panel in the list capture control. If we set the data type to blob, we can't sign. If we set it to varchar(), it works first time, but we can't clear and resign it after it's saved the first time. We also can't view it once the detail view is saved, closed, then re-opened.

Any fresh suggestions from your insights would be appreciated. What would you recommend us to try?

    Thanks,

    Jane.

Not sure of why you are having issues I use it in a lists details view and I have no problems. I can't remember anything special that I had to do. I was able to find what was needed to make it work in this forum. Try setting the control type to image. The signature field is a mysql blob.

Thank you Frank. I'll double check that now. Also, just so I'm clear in my mind, what field type do you have your signature panel set to in the sql database?

Re: Signature Capture - not working in List control Detail View

After following your suggestions Frank it would sign once, but not a second time.

So I started a new component from scratch with a list control that has detail view. It worked. I could sign away as many times as my heart desired.
But as soon as I put the detail view in a window container, I could only sign once.

Has anyone else has this issue?

Yes I have the same problem with a window container. I use panels. I think I tried a container as well without any problems. Hide and show the container. A div would work too.

I also have to rebuild lists after I have made many changes. I am not sure of why. It must be that some of the old settings are getting in the way.

                Hey Frank,
                Yeah, you're spot on.
Lists are handy but gee they can develop some unwarranted twerks. I've had to redo some of them a couple of times because of this (even though the old lists were technically still young).
I'm trying a normal container atm and then opening it through a dynamic window object which has solved that problem. But this has caused another problem with the list updating.
Both the window and list seem to be a bit buggy at times.
Thanks for your help Frank. It helped me on the right path.
                Cheers

                Jane.
