On the fly one to many summary list calculation problem

I'm having problems understanding and getting summary fields to calculate when and how I want on my UX. I have two lists. Units is the parent, and PartsInUnits is the child. It looks like this:

You select a Unit in the left list, and it displays the parts-in-the-unit (the child list) as well as other detail items of the Unit to the right. I sum the total of all the parts, add the labor cost, equipment cost, and sub contract cost to give me the total UnitCost. Seems straight forward, and I've figured out how to get the math to work, but I'm having trouble with when it summarizes. I'd like it to summarize on the fly, but when it does, it changes or re-writes my detail fields. When it re-writes the fields, the UX wants me to save sync again, even if I may have never really done any changes.

To get it to summarize on the fly, Alpha Documentation recommends that I use code like this in the afterClientSideSummaryCompute Event of the child list:

What is the best way to get the "on the fly" calculations without re-writing the fields? Or, is there a better way of handling this?

It looks to me like your calculations are being done correctly.

Make sure your summary fields are not data bound and make sure that your checks for dirty fields are only looking at data-bound fields. (isdatadirty instead of isdirty)

If your summary fields ARE data-bound, then your UX is going to be dirty each time you make a change.

Also, you could try setValue('field','value',false); That will not fire the onchange event of the field you are changing.

Or am I not completely understanding the issue?

Thanks for the reply! They were data bound. I'll make those changes and see how it goes. Since I'm using lists, and the lists are where the data is saved and eventually sync'd, then probably don't need any of the fields that are linked to the list to be data bound? Am I understanding correctly?

To be clear, they were not bound to anything, but they were checked as updatable in the data binding property.
