Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Windows 11 update broke the Amyuni PDF Printer

Old versions of Alpha ver 12 came bundled with the Amyuni PDF Converter which appeared as a printer in devices and printers. Sometime toward the end of Oct 2022 the Amyuni PDF Converter when, called from the development application server under windows 11, failed and I can only assume that it was a windows 11 update that broke that printer. I checked with Amyuni and there is no fix available. This was observed on my windows 11 development computer. My production system uses the old application server but on a windows server and the networked users are using the run time application on windows 10 computers. But I expect there will be system upgrades coming, at which time the PDF printer will fail. So if you are using windows 11 systems and an old version of Alpha with the Amyuni PDF Printer, the only fix is to upgrade AlphaAnywhere to a new version which does not use the Amyuni PDF Printer and produces PDF documents on its own.

I'm pretty sure the amyuni converter has been replaced with new and improved technology. Check the documentation and/or release notes.

Or maybe wait for an other update for W11 to solve the problem.

Yeah, they are no longer using the Amyuni pdf drivers. In fact, if you install Alpha Anywhere using the Alpha Anywhere Universal Installer, I believe the Amyuni driver is not installed.

Untrue - you can reinstall the AMYUNI printer by deleting the A5VxxxPrinter, running A5 as administrator and creating a PDF. You will be prompted to reinstall the AMYUNI printer and all will be fine until Microsoft break it again.

We've been doing this for years on A5V11 & V12

I just tried that. I removed the AMYUNI printer and reinstalled my old version of A5V12 ((Alpha Five Version 12) build is 2970_4510 (released on 14 JUL 2015 02:51 PM)) which reinstalled the AMYUNI printer. But when I activated the development server and connected to the local host and tried to print a pdf report, the printer failed and could not produce the pdf document.

You need to contact Selwyn and get the workaround.

I just bought the subscription and the newest release of AlphaAnywhere. I figure that continuing to use my 7 year old version is just a problem waiting to happen. This time the windows update just broke the Alpha printer on my development machine but the next one may break something on my server and I’ve got a hundred or so users to keep happy. Not worth the worry. If something breaks on a current release, I would contact support but not for a 7 year old version.

In fairness, AA did let us know about this change via release notes.
