Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Code:
    dim pResult as p
    pResult = email_send_mandrill(mysecretkey,ms)
    if pResult.error = .f. then
    	msg1 = "alert('Your Invoice/Estimate was sent.');"
    else
    	msg1= "alert('Your Invoice/Estimate was not sent.');"
    end if
    ReportForEmail = msg1
    end function
    the code should normally return like this. then it will fire the message on to the screen.
    glad to hear it worked out well.
    looks like the code expects someone to change the detail view and the code I had in my mind will send sequence to the browser after sending out the email or for that matter any ajaxcallback to set the value in the detail view which of course will need to be saved. in either case
    I am happy you resolved the issue.

      also another question, why do you need to set all the session variables,
      the whole thing can be written in xbasic without session involvement, is there an advantage?

        Re: setting a forms Field values in Xbasic

        Friend I have NO IDEA...I got the idea when the first session variable worked and so I went with it. By all means, if you can come up with a better more efficient way or offer advice (even on a small scale) I am all ears, you have been not only an inspiration but a huge help in many ways. I cannot thank you enough for your advice and input. It is very evident that, your goal is to help other users out - and you do it often. For that I thank you as do many others who read the advice and maybe never comment but they think it...

        One of the things that most of us do is get it working and move on! It is always such a joy when you finally get something working as expected!

        I will post a video on what I did and how here in a bit. Perhaps you will have more and better advice to offer when you see how I did certain things.

          		else
          		jsCmd = jsCmd + <<%str%
          		{
          		var dVendor = "Email was not able to be sent to " + vendor + " on " + d1;

          	a2 = jsCmd
          	end function
          all done via xbasic, and the message and the field reflect whether success or failure in sending the email.

            Gandhi,
            In video 1, I see when you add data to the comment field, an "X" is added to the control and when the data is removed, this is removed. How do you set this up?
            Working through the video saw where you format the date. is .toFormat() javascript? I can't find it reported when I simply have it in the debugger console even though it works within the app.

              did not do anything special, i will re-examine the code.
              .toFormat() javascript?
              alpha version of javascript, the date.toFormat, to mimic xbasic version. you will find it in version 12 release notes.

                Any idea WHY the stock alpha example code that I am running (mostly stock) is NOT working to give me the presults?
                I get NO msg1 alerts...

                  Think msg1 should be replaced with the actual function name.

                      that is how to end a function to get the alert fire.
                      also in your function you have
                      msg1 and then _name in the else clause.
                      the very first msg1 should be enveloped in a long if end if frame and a small one you have and the exit function will get you out before that msg1 is returned to the function.
