Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Call html/a5w from xBasic and continue (without waiting)

    Hi
I have a case where upon entering/modifying a record, either in an Ajax Callback or afterDialogValidate event, i need to update a remote system (it does so by calling a web service). The problem is that because of infrastructure and security reasons the call to the remote web service takes ages.
So what i want to do is just add a record to a "todo" table and run a a5w page with the specific record as parameter, while not waiting for it to finish, meaning the user gets back control in the ux immediately after save.
    How can i do that?

Maybe sending beacon will solve the problem here if post request is an option.

      Thanks!
This looks exactly what i need, but have no clue how to call an a5w page with parameters using this method

I automate many processes by using a second server (AWS LightSail) that runs Alpha runtime. Emails, SMS, building large reports, and misc. other tasks. I have a "to-do" table that I write tasks to. My runtime routine checks the table every few minutes and if there is a new task it handles it. Perhaps that is something that would work for you.

Opening another a5w page in the same session is still going to tie up that Alpha instance and your users are still going to have to wait for it...maybe I misunderstood?

You use URL + query strings (URL query parameters)

Thanks, i know how to call an a5w with parameters, but won't this stop my xbasic execution until finished? What i don't know is the "sending beacon" part

I did a little test because I need this kind of feature also for smooth user experience. This kind of feature is not possible with xbasic so we need to use javascript in server here.

So in my test I have a test.htm(do not mind of the htm extension it is a a5w page) and I will use query string. The test.htm will then call (server side) node service called sendBeacon. sendBeacon (javascript) will send beacon to beacon.htm and pass the query string also. This node service sendBeacon will not wait what happens in beacon.htm page so it will immediately return the program flow to test.htm. Now test.htm will save to file the query string and then we just wait what happens to beacon.htm which has similar task (delayed by loop).

In the test I will close test.htm but the result is same if I keep it open. You can check the test here. Unfortunately I don not use UX at all so I can not help with it.
