Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alternately show and hide Text in a Textbox Password

    I know this should be easy.
    But I'm coming up with blanks.

    I have a UX Component that includes a textbox to hold a Password which I want to be able to allow the user to change from the Password mode to a regular Textbox, thus allowing them to view its contents.
    I'm sure I need to get a pointer to the textbox, but I can't find any methods to change it's password property.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks.

    Hi Gordon,
    It's very likely this action is prevented as part of the browser's security model.
    I use textboxes and javascript if I need plaintext passwords.

    Untested but in theory might work:

    var pass = document.createElement('input');
    pass.type = 'password';
    document.body.appendChild(pass);
    pass.type = 'text';
    pass.value = 'Password';

      take a look at this screencast.
      the password reveal is available in windows I think, and I am not sure it is programmable.
      so I playing around with alpha and so far this is what I have. may be you can improve and show how it goes.
      if it does not fit, please disregard.
      thanks for reading

        Thanks Gandhi for taking the time to make the short video illustrating your suggestion.

        I could probably do something similar to that, but I am convinced there has to be an easier way... something along the lines of:

        var = {dialog.object}.getPointer('Textbox1');

        if (var.Password == true) {
        var.Password = false }
        else {
        var.Password = true;
        }

        I am just having difficulty finding the right syntax to accomplish this.

          How about having a hidden textbox that is plaintext that you show if required then store the password back when they hit submit.

            Re: Alternately show and hide Text in a Textbox Password

            I looked in the e object and found this:
            http://data2web.network/style/images/art/screen1.jpg
            (not letting me upload today)

            It looks promising. There may be other references but I stopped digging at that point.

            PS: This is not from a login screen, just an email form I built with textboxes.

              Re: Alternately show and hide Text in a Textbox Password

              OK,

              As often happens, once I post I end up finding a (the) solution...

              I am using a textbox named "Password" (with it's "Password" property checked) to display the contents of a field that I want to be able to show as a Password (little black circles) or as plain text.

              It turns out you can easily manipulate the "type" property of the textbox. Here is the code I used in the click event of the button:

              Code:
              var pw = {dialog.object}.getPointer('Password');

              if ( $ga(pw,'type') == 'password')

              {
                $sa(pw,'type','text');
              }

              else

              {
               $sa(pw,'type','password');
              }
              I also (re)discovered the "Reference" section of the Alpha Five documentation, which is where I found these javascript functions. (Under the "Table of Contents" tab).

                    Gald to hear you found a solution.

                    You should be able to edit a post for an hour or so after creating it.

                    So you see an edit post button in the lower right section of your message?
