Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Question about polling for logged in user

    Hello. I am pretty new to Alpha and not really much of a java developer. I have a question regarding how to pull a logged in user and post that data to a component field. Currently I have this running in-line, client side on the UX in the 'canSubmitDialog' Client-Side events.

    var getName = {dialog.Object}.loggedInUserNameFriendlyGet();
    {dialog.Object}.setValue('Record_Creator',getName);

    It submits, therefore I assume the java code executed as true, yet the database entry shows a blank for username. I am using Active Directory with a login component tied to the UX, and all that works just fine. Does this look like it should be working? Any ideas on how to troubleshoot or some way to see if even the var is being populated with anything in the first place?

    To check if the var is being populated alert it:
    Code:
    alert(getName);
    What control are you using for the field record_creator; a (hidden) textbox ?

    Your javaSCRIPT (not JAVA!!!) code seems ok to me.

      Hah, touche'. Yes javaSCRIPT and not Java. :) Record_Creator isn't hidden, but it's a textbox, nvchar50 or something. Thanks for the debug alert, that's a good start. I tested by changing ('Record_Creator',getName) to ('Record_Creator','getName') and that of course puts the string getName directly into the text field. This is why I was thinking the rest of it should be correct, and that I might not be getting any data in the variable to begin with. I'll do a test with your alert later today and report back.

        I have not looked for the function you are using to get the friendly name; where did you find that ? I can't seem to find it right away

        In the v12 release notes there is however mention of "friendly user name" referring to the e object

          I am not at my workstation currently, but it's a bit buried. When you are going to add JS into a component, there's many pre-defined options. Email, open UX component, etc. One of the options is 'In-Line'. Doing that lets you create something of a custom line, and in there you can search for 'loggedInUser' and that particular line will come up. It does mention that it only works when using the integrated login component, but as of right now that is working from what I can tell. I am able to use the login component tied to my AD, on successful login I get directed to my component.

          *edit* OK, the release notes do expound quite a bit on that particular function. On initial reading, it looks like that might not even be a solution for me regardless. I essentially need to populate a text field in the component with the first and last name of the logged in AD user. I had something already working by polling another table that has my employee data (not AD). Problem was not all of the mobile browsers worked with the lookup table, and if that doesn't work then it can't populate the Record_Creator.

          It appears I have to programatically set the friendly name, and I am guessing the actual logged in name will be [email protected] and not John Doe.

              Re: Question about polling for logged in user

              I can start a new thread if needed, but this is still what I am trying to achieve. I need to be able to set a text field with the name of the logged in user, not a friendly name.

              In your onLogin server-side event you would execute code to set e.userNameFriendly by looking up the friendly name for the user name.
              Once you have set e.userNameFriendly in the server-side event, it can be used in the afterLogin client-side event and also in watch expressions.
              TIP: If you do want to have the real logged in user name available on the client-side (for example, so that you can display it in a message like 'Logged in as: [email protected]'), then you can always set the friendly name to the same as the user name in the onLogin server-side event.
              I need some basic advice on what to set to make this happen. I am looking at the server-side events, the e.userNameFriendly and e.username, but unsure as to what exactly to put there to make this part work:

              The afterLogin event can be used to display a message on the screen indicating the (friendly) name of the logged in user.
              For example, assume you have a static text control on the UX with this text:
              Logged in as: <span id="loggedinusername"></span>

              In the afterLogin event, you could add this code:
              var ele = $('loggedinusername');
              ele.innerHTML = e.userNameFriendly;

              You might also put a client-side show/hide expression on the label as follows:
              dialog.isLoggedIn = true
              I'm guessing this is easy, but I am just getting my toes wet here, so any advice is greatly appreciated! (I was thinking it should be something like 'e.userNameFriendly = e.username' in the onLogin server side section, but obviously that's not syntactically correct.)
