Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Application Server Default Pages

    Hi There,

Within my web root I have multiple Folders that represent different aspects of my web project.

    Folder1
    Folder2
    Folder3
    etc.

Within my webroot (Not in a folder) I also have a default HOME page that allows you to then navigate to the different folders, to get to this home page, I type in the url www.MySite.com (which is technically www.MySite.com/Home.html). What I would like to do is have the Alpha Server send me to the default page in specific sub-folder.

So if in a URL you enter www.MySite.com/Folder2 this should take you to the default page within Folder2 but currently it does not, it just loads the home page (www.MySite.com/Home.html) but lists the url as www.MySite.com/folder2.

In my application server default pages I have the main one as Home.html, the second is Folder2.a5w which is where I want to be taken to when entering www.MySite.com/folder2.
How does this need to be configured? Please help, thank you for your time.

    Re: Application Server Default Pages

Confusing, your description contradicts itself in different paragraphs. If you want it to go to a specific A5W page by virtue of entering a subfolder on the URL, you are thinking of Apache "rewrite URL", which you cannot do on Alpha. But you can fake it by having an index.a5w in each subfolder that has a single function response.redirect() to redirect back to the page you want in the main folder.

If you want to go to different folders by entering a URL with a folder name, it will do that, but the Alpha Developer will not allow you to build an application with subfolders (technically it has that option, but it totally fails to work).

Yes, I thought I was explaining that a bit oddly, let me try again.

My Webroot looks Like image 1, If you go to the URL www.MySite.com, it takes you to the Home.html within the webroot in image 1. I want to be able to take me to the home.html page inside of Folder2 (see image 2)by just entering www.MySite.com/Folder2. From what Ive heard, this is possible but is just not working for me.

I want to be able to enter www.MySite.com/Folder2 without having to enter www.MySite.com/Folder2/Home.html, which is what Im currently doing.

          Re: Application Server Default Pages

As Steve pointed out you can put index.html (or other default page in server configuration) in subfolder.
So if folder2 has inside an index.html then url www.MySite.com/folder2 will show page www.MySite.com/folder2/index.html -page. If server does not find it it will go root up to default page. That is all intelligence (?) we have in separate AA server.

            Re: Application Server Default Pages

My problem is that I have added these pages in the application server, saved settings, restarted it, but it still defaults to the main default page.

It is a cache problem. Clear cache.

That seems to have done it, working good now. Thank you, this was making me a little crazy. I should have just tried from a different computer I guess.

                Thanks again Steve and Ken.

You may want to look at the AA IIS plugin; IIS does support URL rewriting
