Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Grid or UX List Elapsed time column

    Hi,

I have figured out how to do this easily in the desktop area, but now I need to do this on a web form.

I need to display either a Grid or a UX List control (at this point, either option will work), where I need to have an "elapsed time" column that updates automatically. Each row would have a different time so when it calculates it, it must calculate it from another column/field in the row.

    The layout would be:

VEH ........ Arrival Time ......... Timer
Veh 1----------21:04:05----------3m2s (and the 3m2s would automatically update - preferably every second but if that's too much, then maybe every 10 secs).
    Veh 2----------20:45:01----------19m20s

etc... I'm sure javascript would handle this, but I have no idea what to do to calculate it.

    Thank you for any assistance!
    Chris

I do not know what backend db source you are using,
if you are using sql then you can use an expression to do the calculation for elapsed time such as currentTime() - arrival_time,
then it is a matter of calculating hours, minutes and seconds.
then in the grid use autorefreshstart() in the onGridRenderComplete() event
it will do almost as you want but not quite.
it will have three columns i.e hours, minutes and seconds.
this is for a grid and as far as I know the list is only a read only grid in a different name and different place (could be wrong there).

Re: Grid or UX List Elapsed time column

I provide a variety of javascript timers and stopwatches for my users. A bit of web searching will turn up something that'll make sense to you. Here's where I found what I could best understand, and serves as the base for all of my tools on this subject:

Gandhi, thank you. I figured javascript would be better than an ajax or database call (I have a hidden field with the status date/time and then figured javascript could read that value, and calculate it in another visible column). I don't want the whole grid to update because of it causing a flashing and waste of database resources. I'll take a look at the videos shortly because maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying....

Steve, thank you also. I'll take a look. So much stuff out there. I have the calculation part done (using countdownjs.org javascript), but just need to figure out the refresh of just the status timer column without making the whole grid refresh constantly.

        THANKS !!
