Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    SQL::ResultSet::ToXML() Crashing Alpha

    I am using the SQL::ResultSet::ToXML() to generate an xml document. I ran my code in debug mode and alpha crashes every time I reach this line:
    Code:
    ui_msg_box("XML Data", rs.toxml(-1, -1, "DocName", "RowName", "irdInformationReturn"))
    Any ideas anyone?

    UI_MSG_BOX()

    Limitations

    Desktop applications only.

    Also the documentation for .toxml() seems to have an error in the example. The second parameter is the first row to use and default is 1. The example shows -1 which is likely wrong.

      What about 'Rows to copy'? The figure of -1 will copy all rows?

        Where does the xml file go? Is it supposed to export via the browser automatically?

          XML_String as C = <SQL::ResultSet>.ToXML( [ RowsToCopy as N [, StartRow as N [, DocumentName as C [, RowName as C [, Header as C [, ReferenceColumns as SQL::TableInfo [, UserContext as P ]]]]]]] )
          Description

          The ToXML() method converts a SQL::ResultSet object to a XML formatted string.

          Is there some portion of that unclear to you?

            Re: SQL::ResultSet::ToXML() Crashing Alpha

            The second parameter was wrong in the documentation. I want to make sure the first parameter is not wrong. According to the documentation the first parameter is also -1 and this specifies the rows to copy according to the documentation. I am asking if this figure is correct. Notwithstanding if what you said is right in your post about the figure being 1 and not -1, the Alpha intellisense is also incorrect as it still shows the second parameter being -1.

            But lets focus on my question. The documentation has the first parameter which is 'Rows to copy' as being -1. Is this correct?

              Okay, it's in a string format. How do I export it?

                You can save it to a file with SAVE_TO_FILE( Data_String as C, Filename as C [, Append as L ] ).

                Filename as C would need to include the full path and extension.

                  Okay things are going quite well. However I now I have I guess an easier question. Regarding
                  XML_String as C = <SQL::ResultSet>.ToXML( [ RowsToCopy as N [, StartRow as N [, DocumentName as C [, RowName as C [, Header as C [, ReferenceColumns as SQL::TableInfo [, UserContext as P ]]]]]]] )

                  For the Header as C... I want to use the declaration <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>. I am thinking I have to escape those double quotes. How do I insert my xml declaration as the header?

                  This is the code
                  Code:
                  xmlFile = rs.toxml(-1, 1, "DocName", "RowName", "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>")
                  This wont work, I need to escape those double quotes.

                      As I mentioned things are progressing quite nicely. The file is actually saving and it's well formatted and I can open it in a browser. But how do I export it to the browser automatically?

                      Code:
                      xmlFile = rs.toxml(-1, 1, "DocName", "RowName", "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"US-ASCII\" standalone=\"yes\"?>")

                       save_to_file(xmlFile,"C:\DBF\TD5BD.xml")
                      It's saving and that's great. But now I want the browser to export or I want it to appear in the browser automatically. How do I do that?

                        See if SYS_OPEN( Filename as C ) works.

                          This error code comes back
                          Code:
                           Error code: 1164
                          Error details: Not supported
                          Should I specify .xml in the server settings as an associated file type?
                          This is what the code looks like
                          Code:
                          xmlFile = rs.toxml(-1, 1, "DocName", "RowName", "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"US-ASCII\" standalone=\"yes\"?>")

                          flag = save_to_file(xmlFile,"C:\DBF\TD5BD.xml")
                          if flag = .t. then
                          		sys_open("C:\DBF\TD5BD.xml")
                          else
                          	msg = "Error: File could not be saved."

                            I'm going to bow out of this one. I don't do web/mobile so I really don't have a clue how you would open an xml file there. Sys_open() is probably more appropriate to the desktop.
