Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Thanks

You could make a static list. Then in the list onSelect event using javascript to get the list value and then use if/else statements to do something (like JS actions).

Do what Mike says. And you can make it dynamic using JS. I would create a sample UX for you but I'm just too busy. Maybe later...

        Sorry.

This video might be a good place for you start. http://www.viddler.com/v/96348d95. Though it is focused on adding CSS icons to the list menu, it does take you through the very basics of using the Listmenu control in the Defined Controls group in the UX builder.

Can I ask a question? (I guess that is what this forum is for). Awhile back I looked at using a list for a menu (both the JS method and the Listmenu control). It seemed fairly complex compared to just using buttons, or containers with CSS to act like buttons, with simple on click events in a window container or a slide-in panel which is well documented in videos. Is there some advantage to using a list menu that I am missing?

Re: building menu with list control

I actually had not looked at these videos in quite some time. The one I thought it was, http://www.alphasoftware.com/blog/ho...jquery-mobile/, is actually a detailed tutorial on exactly what you asked for, using a list control as a menu with slide-in panels. I think I just found it easier to substitute buttons (sometimes containers for a more full width appearance). If you search "menus"' in the in-app video finder, which is accessed from the help menu, you will find other menu options. Sometimes I use panels, but more often, a container window with the "show container window" action to display it, is the easiest way to create a menu system. Since you have complete control of what is in the container window(or panel), you can do whatever you want, including images, different formatted controls, grouping, headings, etc. It seemed to me that the list as a menu was more limiting and more coding to implement. I am still waiting for a real Alphaholic to tell us what the advantage of a list menus is.

Please show me sample of how to create a JavaScript that calls a static menu list item on the list control.

Here is a sample. Run in working preview and you will see that an alert pops up every time you make a list selection. You can replace that alert with a runAction method that will do what it is you need done.
