Hello all,
I'm seeking to find the most easiest way to generate new record using existing auto-numbered (shared) ID table & append to multiple tables.
The purpose of this shared auto-numbered table is because it is used for a multi-user accounts payable entry environment where multiple AP clerks are retrieving a unique ID to attribute to all new invoices.
Of course in my Access world this has been easily accomplished and has performed very well over the last 8+ years Now that I'm trying to move to a web environment I have identified that for the most part it will be fairly straight forward, however this is the only sticking point because using access I would use a combination of local table and shared table to essentially "retrieve" a new auto-number ID from the shared table and bring into local table to be able to add additional invoice header information per user.
Not sure if this scenario makes sense. I'm hoping someone here has accomplished something similar and can provide some advice/insight. Even if not accomplished the same way, I'm of course willing to listen.
While I know Alpha has autonumber fields and has built-in functionality to create new records, the challenge for me is that when this new autonumber is created I need that new ID field to get "created" in multiple tables simultaneously to complete the entire invoice profile that exists in multiple tables.
Thank you all for your time.
