Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Can't Set Selected Row in Grid

    Can't Set Selected Row in Grid

    I have a read-only grid with an editable detail part. In each grid row is a button that executes an Ajax Callback which returns the following javascript:

    Code:

    var rowNum = {grid.Object}.getRowsInGrid();
    {grid.Object}.setSelectedRow(rowNum);
    which, I believe, should select the last row in the currently-displayed page (I actually want to do something more complicated which will end up with a particular row being selected but in order to narrow things down I thought I'd simply try to select a specific row). Now, say I'm in the third row of the grid and click the button: what I think I can see happening is that upon return from the callback the last row is BRIEFLY selected but then the highlight returns to the third row. I can try swapping setFocus for setSelectedRow and it doesn't make any difference.

    Has anyone run into anything like this before (searching these Boards has turned up nada)?

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Can't Set Selected Row in Grid

    I'm not seeing this behaviour in either 2999 or the current pre-release. The code posted does exactly what you're expecting... so... you must have something else going on that is returning focus to the original row.

    Try this. Put your code into a Javascript function named setLastRow, but wrap your code with a setTimeout...

    Code:
    function setLastRow(){

    	setTimeout(function(){
    		var rowNum = {grid.Object}.getRowsInGrid();
    		{grid.Object}.setSelectedRow(rowNum);
    	},5000);

    }
    In your Ajax Callback return, instead of executing your code, execute the function

    Code:
    myAjaxCallback = "setLastRow();"
    This should let whatever else you have going on settle down, and then in 5 seconds your last row should be set.

      Re: Can't Set Selected Row in Grid

      David: Thanks, I certainly will consider following your advice, but I've done some further testing and this code DOES work fine, at my end, when the grid is not read-only. It's when my grid is read-only and has an editable detail part that it fails. Looking at FireBug it seems that the grid sends a number of callbacks after mine completes, one of which is "Synchronize Detail View" or something like that, that sets up the row that was selected before I clicked the button, wiping out my javascript positioning.

      Have you tried this in the read-only grid case?

        Re: Can't Set Selected Row in Grid

        Sorry... I forgot about the Detail View part. All looks ok if the grid is read-only. However, things are different when working with a detail view. It doesn't seem to matter what your Detail View property "Method to Display Detail View" is set to. But, you must use {grid.Object}.detailView(rowNum); instead of .setSelectedRow.

        Further, when using a detail view, .getRowsInGrid() always returns 0. So... use a property of the {grid.Object} to get your count. You can use either property below... they both return the page row count. I don't know if these counts include deleted rows... so you'll have to test that.

        Code:
        //var rowNum = {grid.Object}._rowsInGrid;
        var rowNum = {grid.Object}.actualRowsOnPage;
        alert(rowNum);
        //{grid.Object}.setSelectedRow(rowNum);
        {grid.Object}.detailView(rowNum);

          Geez, where do you get this stuff? Is it documented anywhere or are we supposed to just "divine" it somehow? :) One of the downsides of Alpha, just isn't much out there in terms of resources if it's not in the docs.

          Anyway, I can't wait to try it and will certainly get back if there are issues.

          Regardless, thanks very much for sharing your expertise.

            Re: Can't Set Selected Row in Grid

            Just as a follow-up: What I actually wanted to do was to go to the last page of the grid and search for a specific key. So my plan was to issue the javascript: {grid.Object}.DetailViewLastRecord(); , then loop through the rows in the grid until I found the row number containing the key I wanted, then do {grid.Object}.DetailView(rowNum). What I found was that the {grid.Object}.DetailViewLastRecord() WAS executed, but basically last, and my looping and {grid.Object}.DetailView(rowNum) was either lost or probably executed before the page navigation.

            So, thanks to you, I did learn (or re-learn) some Alpha javascript dealing with read-only grids and detail views, but the asynchronous nature of the callbacks and javascript royally mucks things up. Well, at least it's not just me (I think). :)

            Thanks again, David.
