Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Show/Hide Expression using dates

    Hello there,

    Ive been searching these forums for a show/hide expression in a ux component for comparing two dates, but the more I read the less I understand. Apparently working with dates in JS is just about the worst thing you could possibly do.

    I am trying to write a show Hide expression that compares two date fields on my ux. Basically I want to write "Date1+5 < Date2", if this statement is true, then it will show the Static Text I have on the ux. Is there any easy way of doing this? I keep finding solutions on this forum that want me to place coding in the JS functions portion of the UX to accomplish this, and even found something on moment.js (still not 100% on how I could use that).

    Thank you for any help.

    Re: Show/Hide Expression using dates

    I just tested the show hide, client, side it works as expected.
    (date1 + 5) < date2
    may be there is more to it than what you posted.
    you probably need to write your function for server side if that is what needed, then use getSeconds function then compare between date1 and date2 that will be the easy way to do
    thanks for reading

      Re: Show/Hide Expression using dates

      For some reason it is not working for me. I dont know if it is important to mention that both control Types are set to Date and there is a client side Mask of "00/00/0000".

      ADDITION: I created a blank ux with two date control and one static text with show/hide expression of (date1+5) < date2 and it is not showing. My first date was 01/01/2015 and 2nd date was 12/01/2015 which should have shown my static text right.

          Thank you for the video, I have the exact same set up but it does not respond the way you showed? Could it be an alpha build issue?

                tested your component, there is a javascript error somewhere
                but it still works as expected here when the condition matches.

                  Re: Show/Hide Expression using dates

                  Having these errors happen makes it very difficult for me to learn this alpha web stuff. My transition from desktop to web has not been an easy one.

                  The question is now, what do I do? Where do I go from here because I do not get the result that you showed in the video. Feeling very frustrated.

                  Thank you for you help gandhi.

                      Re: Show/Hide Expression using dates

                      I share your pain when something simple seems hard. Never give up are just words when you've spent hours flailing around.

                      That being said, here you go.

                      Put this in the show/hide expression: getDaysBetweenDates(date1 ,date2 ) > 5

                      Put this in the Javascript Functions section

                      Code:
                      function getDaysBetweenDates() {
                      var d1 = {dialog.Object}.getValue('date1');
                      var d2 = {dialog.Object}.getValue('date2');

                        var msPerDay = 8.64e7;

                        // Copy dates so don't mess them up
                        var x0 = new Date(d1);
                        var x1 = new Date(d2);

                        // Set to noon - avoid DST errors
                        x0.setHours(12,0,0);
                        x1.setHours(12,0,0);

                      return Math.round( (x1 - x0) / msPerDay );
                      }
                      The up-loader didn't work for me or I'd have given you the component.

                      Someone more clever than me might give you a better answer but until then, this works.

                        Well I have an existing dialog that is already in use, but I was asked to incorporate a Static text on the UX that will show in red whenever (date1+5)<date2.

                            the mask is giving the problem, the object needs to be transomed to string and it does not support.
                            if i remove that your component does not complain.
