Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Show/Hide Expression using dates

    Ivan, I see exactly the same behaviour you're seeing. Basically, it's because adding 5 to a date object in a show/hide expression doesn't really mean too much. 5 what? Seconds, Minutes, Days, etc.

    You're best to hand this off to a javascript function and then you can do some date object manipulation. Attached is a working UX. The show/hide expression is...

    Code:
    testDates(date1,date2)
    The javascript function is...
    Code:
    function testDates(date1,date2){

    	date1.setDate(date1.getDate() + 5);

    	if(date1 < date2){
    		return true;
    	}

    }
    The show/hide expression is just looking for a "true" result.

    In the code, setDate() and getDate() work with the "day" of the date object. So... we're setting a new day value for date1... which is the current day + 5. In this context... we know we're working with a "day" value and so adding 5 makes sense and adds 5 days.

      Re: Show/Hide Expression using dates

      Code:
      ?date()
      = {10/13/2015}

      ?date() + 5
      = {10/18/2015}
      this is from interactive window, it seems to work adding numbers to the date field.

        http://screencast.com/t/DiQbnKyFFOr
        here is new screencast with javascript comparison.
        since client side is done in browser I wrote the javascript function to evaluate the difference.
        you could also use david's method of setDate to the date value and compare.
        thanks for reading

          You are working with XBasic at the server level. Alpha has allowed you to do this.

          At the client-side we are not working with XBasic... we are working with javascript date objects... and adding 5 to a javascript date object gives you this...

          Code:
          "Thu Jan 01 2015 00:00:00 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)5"
          You can't imply that adding a number to a date object in XBasic at the server level has anything to do with the client-side. The 2 are completely different.

              and adding 5 to a javascript date object gives you this...
              "Thu Jan 01 2015 00:00:00 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)5"
              i understand that
              but
              take a look at the first screencast why it is working?
              i think it is because date1 is a field alpha works with that and adds 5 days to it, not a date object. to avoid any issue i have provided that javascript function to properly check 5 days later.
              i am not comfortable with getDate and setDate method for adding dates.

                Thank you all for the great input.

                Thanks David, the explanation about "adding 5 what" in post #16 makes sense.

                Thanks gandhi, I adapted your solution to my ux and it seems to be working just as I wanted.
