Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Copying components - changes not carried over

    Hey There,

Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

When we copy a component from one persons computer to another computer, we just give each other the .a5wcmp file.
Occasionally, the changes we make aren't reflected in the file we give to the person even though it is the latest file.

An example is two days ago. I copied a comp that was sent to me via email. I pasted it into my project folder. I opened it in alpha and changes weren't there.
I ended up having to exit alpha, delete old comp, then paste new comp, then open alpha and then open new comp before the changes would show.

Is there something we are missing? Is there an easier way to share components? Your help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Jane.

when the other person sends you the .a5wcmp file are you downloading to your download folder, then open the alpha and select add file from the web projects control panel and navigate to the download folder and select the downloaded .a5wcmp file. it might ask you whether you you want to overwrite or just give alias as .a5wcmp(1). then see if that newly downloaded file works. if it does and an alias was given, delete the older one and rename the new one without the alias.
should work, has worked for me in the past.

We hadn't been using the 'add file' menu option in alpha GG.
We had just been pasting it in via our folder browser.
We will try using the alpha 'add file' and hopefully this stops that happening.
      Thanks

      Jane.

Re: Copying components - changes not carried over

Why aren't you using the export feature? It allows you to combine multiple components into one file, and also adds related components? The file can then be imported on the target computer without your having to worry about placing it in the proper folder.

Jane... I have never seen this. I send and receive single components via email all the time. I drag them from email to my project folder, or from my project folder to email, and never have I experienced what you're seeing. As far as I know, the component is self contained. Can you re-produce this? Could it have been a copy error on your part?

Hey Jay - thanks for replying. We will start utilising that as well.
Hey David - thanks for checking in. It has happened numerous times here unfortunately. Around about 3 times for me last week alone. We are going to dedicate some time this week to re-producing it and working out what's happening. I agree with your understanding that the component was self contained so I'm confused as to why it's happening as well.
