Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

UX get data from another table

    UCase:

Create an UX that can provide rates, depending on the age and grade of a student.

    - There are 2 dbf tables (Entry Table and Rates Table).
    - The Rates tables has the following fields;
    - Age
    - Grade
    - Rate

    - The Entry Table ask the following information
    - Age
    - Grade

Created an UX using the Entry Table that should search for the Rate from the Rates table using the Age and Grade as a relation.

So if I enter in the UX the age and grade the resulting rate should appear.

    Any help?

    Thanks, Nelson

Re: UX get data from another table

Depending on how much data is involved I would use an XBasic callback to query the Rates table and bring back a JSON object of arrays to the client side. Assign that data to a dialog object namespace variable so you can access it.

When Age and Grade a entered in the UX, use those values to filter and find a match in the data to get your rate.

This way, you only need to call back to the server once upon startup.

Do you have to use DBFs?

Re: UX get data from another table

since the data to be entered in entry table is based on two variables located in the rates table, the design process should control these two variables in both tables first.
i do not know how the age variable should be but i think a range should make it easy.
      so for example rate table
id numeric auto increment (self explanatory)
      age character ( 5-9,10-14,15-20 )
      grade numeric (1,2,3,4,5)
      rate numeric ( 10.00, 20.00, 30.00, 40.00, 50.00)

      then the entry table
id numeric auto increment ( self explanatory)
      age character ( filled in by a dropdown, 5-9, 10-14, 15-20)
grade numeric(filled in via lookup, 1,2,3,4,5)
rate numeric ( to be filled in via lookup)

the data given in parenthesis are examples.
then the ux can be defined to bind your dbf table
      and in the ux
the age will be a dropdown a static list of the values 5-9, 10-14, 15-20
grade will be a text box with lookup defined to look up the rate table and select the grade matching the the age group then fill in other fields the rate.
that will fill in the rate field and you will have one ajax callback.

(this is one way of doing, if age needs be in exact numbers then the dropdown be will be longer, but the idea will be the same. both the rate table and the entry table will have age as numeric.)

Re: UX get data from another table

        Thanks Govindan Gandhi,

I did something similar to that using dbf tables and using a Set of the Entry and Rate table.
For the desktop version it worked, not so for the UX component.

Is there something similar to a Set when using UX?

        thanks,

        Nelson

Re: UX get data from another table

no need for a set, but after look up fill in the other fields.
          how is your age defined?

            If I understand your question, it goes like this;

I enter the age by selecting age (25 or 26 or 27, etc)

            Thanks
