Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to clear data from LIST controls

    I have a UX with three linked list controls - so a Grandparent (Customers) - Parent (Header) - Child relationship (Details). Currently I am using a MSAccess Database as my data source. This will be a disconnected app. I had some issues with alpha not assigning the primary key in the Grandparent list. After lots of attempts to debug I finally decided to delete my MSAccess Table (with 34 records in it) and re-pasted the structure with no data. At that point the table worked great but it assigned the next (now first) customer CustomerID = 35. That I can accept and I expected as I did nothing to reset the CustomerID field. In WORKING preview the componet seems to be working properly.

    Then I try the component in the LIVE PREVIEW and the original data is all still there. How do I clear this data? Why is it still there?

    Thanks in advance

    Maybe because it disconnected so it's coming from local storage.

      It is coming from disconnect storage - what I am trying to find out is how to clear the storage?

        Hi Darren,

        You may be interested in this video about Managing Local Storage: https://www.alphasoftware.com/video-library/?v=4475

        The List Control Documentation, referenced in the video, includes examples for deleting keys for a List control from local storage:
        Code:
        //delete all keys in local storage for other UX components
        var obj = {dialog.object}._ls_getData('o');
        {dialog.object}._ls_deleteKeys(obj);
        Good luck!

            Sarah,
            If I wanted to delete a specific list local storage key how would I go about that?

            Some variation of the below?

            function ticclear() {
            //delete local storage keys
            var obj = {dialog.object}._ls_getData('lists:t');
            {dialog.object}._ls_deleteKeys(obj.ALPHA_TICKET.LIST.TIC_LIST);
            //this clears the detail view
            var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('TIC_LIST');
            lObj.newDetailViewRecord();
            }

            Thanks

              Re: How to clear data from LIST controls

              I figured this one out from some earlier work...too easy I guess.

              You can clear local storage from a specific list as follows:

              localStorage.removeItem('ALPHA_NAMESPACE.LIST.LISTNAME');

              ALPHA = standard prefix

              NAMESPACE = the local storage namespace you assigned in UX properties.

              LIST = specifies it is local storage from a list.

              LISTNAME = the variable name of your actual list.

              My corrected function:

              function tlClear() {
              //delete local storage keys
              localStorage.removeItem('Alpha_TICKET.LIST.tic_list');
              var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('TIC_LIST');
              lObj.newDetailViewRecord();
              {dialog.object}.refreshListData('tic_list');
              }

              Hope this helps others...
