Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Make a grid button look like a hyperlink

    I have a button on a row in a grid, and I want to make the button look like a hyperlink. How can this be done?

    Why don't you just turn the button into a hyperlink?

      Re: Make a grid button look like a hyperlink

      Because I am having a lot of issues with hyperlinks on iphone. I have a button with the exact same code as a hyperlink, which in both cases just uses action javascript to open a grid. The button works; the link does not. So i will use buttons as long as i can make them look like links. This ability is built in to the ux, but not the grid - the fact that the ux allows you to make a button look like a link suggests to me that this is added to the ux by alpha to cover problem situations like i am describing.

        technically speaking button works in the same document, but hyperlinks works documents with other than where they are residing, that could be the problem in the iPhone set up.
        my be you can post your code that calls when the button is clicked.
        may be you can try a variation on the hyperlink.
        <a href= "#" onClick="YOUR ACTION JAVACRIPT>LINK NAME </a>

          Re: Make a grid button look like a hyperlink

          Thanks for the suggestion. I think you are right - the hyperlink seems to be causing issues on iphone because ios thinks we are trying to go to another page.

          What code should i post? It is action javascript. Here is the javascript from the action script:

          {grid.componentName}_G__UNBOUND_HYPERLINK_2_1({grid.rownumber},'{grid.rowId}',this);

          How would I use <a href= "#" onClick="YOUR ACTION JAVACRIPT>LINK NAME </a>

          and where would I put it?

            no
            can you post the action itself, like
            onClick = open the grid named "alpha"
            or it is almost equal to what i wrote above?

              Re: Make a grid button look like a hyperlink

              before i try, can you try this, since you have the necessary grids and related information.
              in the grid where you would like hyperlink, instead of adding hyperlink from the menu add static text. then click the expander to declare the static text. there you enter
              <a href="#">Your Hyper Link </a>
              then go to onClick and define your action javascript.
              see if it solves the issue.

                Thanks so much for looking in to this.

                I am not sure I understand what you mean.

                As a test, I put the following in a static tect control:
                <a href="#" "http://www.w3schools.com">Visit W3Schools</a>

                When runjning this on iphone, it does not work correctly.

                    Re: Make a grid button look like a hyperlink

                    To directly answer the question, you should be able to set the 'button style' property in the 'button properties' section of the button properties with the following CSS (or some variation):

                    background-color: transparent;
                    text-decoration: underline;
                    border: none;
                    color: blue;
                    cursor: pointer;

                    I tested this by inserting a button on a grid row, which resulted with the button having the general appearance of a hyperlink.

                      Re: Make a grid button look like a hyperlink

                      It's a matter of setting up a Local CSS definition and adding that class to the button. For a Grid, which this is for, you must provide a class for selected and non-selected rows. A bit of Javascript in the row selected event sets the appropriate class as well as re-setting the class for the non-selected row. Hover and Focus must also be addressed in the CSS.

                        Re: Make a grid button look like a hyperlink

                        Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Here is what I ended up doing and I am rather pleased with it. I put the following in the style of the button:

                        text-decoration: underline; border-style: none; color: #000000; cursor: pointer; font-weight: normal; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; background-color: #ffffff;

                        This then makes the buttons look like the links shown in the attached image ...buttons as limnks.png
