Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Disconnect App Produce Duplicate Data.

    Hi,
I have a disconected application working fine.
Nevertheless I have 2 main issues.
1-sometimes the same record is saved many times (up to 10 times)
2-I need the users to be able to login even if they are not connected (I think this is available somewhere I need to search for it).

The really main and frustrating issue is the duplcation of records. I have no ideas on how to avoid this ... Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

Are you basing the list on the primary key(s) or on a field? If you are not using the primary key, it can cause this issue. Even if you have the list set to "field" and you are using the primary key as the field, this can cause problems.

If you find the answer to the login question, I (and I'm sure others) would like to hear it too!

      Thank you Larry,
But it is based on the primary key, I double checked. It has a parent list also based on primary..
I am thinking now on doing a trigger in SQL to remove the duplicates. but it is not the solution...

Re: Disconnect App Produce Duplicate Data.

What is the PK based upon? Is it a combination of the parent and a field in the child table or is it strictly an autoincrement field?

You say that you sometimes but not always get dupes - is there a repeatable sequence of events that causes duplication or is it completely random so far as you can tell?

When you synchronize, does the synch process say that it is completed, or do you sometimes have to sync multiple times to get it to be correct? (Because the multiple syncing is where the duplication would occur.)

        Try this:

        Put in some new records
        Sync

If the sync does not show that it completed, look in the db - are the records there? If so, then the duplication is caused by multiple syncing - you don't have a duplication problem, you have a sync problem. The sync is occurring, but Alpha isn't see the response properly. So when you sync again, it sends the records again.

Re: Disconnect App Produce Duplicate Data.

There's a property 'Use server-side synchronization log table' in the Detail View pane of the List builder. This should prevent duplicates. You also need to specify the table for the Data Synchronization Log (Project Properties).

          hope that helps

            Hello,
The Pk is just an auto incremental field.
While testing it never happens. It is hapening with the users..
I remember seeing the 'Use server-side synchronization log table' and I did the setup. Now I am not able to find it anymore (to double check)... can you guide me where it is is. It seems I blind I searched everywhere :)

            Thank you for your help
