Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Publishing Mobile Application from Server With PhoneGap

    Hi,

I am new to Alpha Anywhere and PhoneGap services. I've successfully built a Mobile App, published on my local PC, packaged with PhoneGap and tested on mobile device, all working fine!

Then I published the App on my Host Server and accessed using the server URL, which is working too! Question is, how do I package my App from the Host Server with PhoneGap?

When I published the App, I can choose the location between Local or Server using the profiles but I don't see this option with PhoneGap.

I would like to package the App using PhoneGap so that it uses connection to my Host and SQL Server Database rather than my Local PC.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

    Shaz

Sorry, not sure what you mean by PhoneGap shell. Do you mean to use PhoneGap Web Service directly by posting my project on GitHub and then packaging App in PhoneGap?

When you create an UX component one option is phonegap shell -template. It does not directly solve your problems but with shell you can load UX directly from server to shell so developing/testing is much faster than using phonegap build. How to use shell -> youtube ->alphasoftware->shell

Shaz, using the PhoneGap Shell will be helpful for testing but it will not answer your question.

You need to publish your UX component(s) to your server, as you normally do. Then, in the Alpha PhoneGap Builder, in the property URL for Ajax Callback, you specifiy your Host IP address and published location.

When your PhoneGap Build app runs, it makes a call (if required) to that URL and to your published UX. Communication is then established between your app and your host.

Sorry... unsure what you mean. You recommended the PhoneGap Shell which will not help Shaz. He's having trouble getting his PhoneGap Build Alpha App to communicate with his Host. At least, that's how I read it. I'm not sure how the PhoneGap Shell you're recommending will help solve the question Shaz asked about.

His issue may be in the URL for Ajax Callback property setting of the Alpha PhoneGap Build builder... which is what I wrote about.

                    Dear All,

Just to confirm that its working now.

Yes, Issue was in the URL for Ajax call back, I had specified my Host_IP_Address/Published_Location/Main_UX_Component in Ajax callback, however all you need is
                    Host_IP_Address/Published_Location.

Thank you very much for your help again!
