Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    OData Connection Type

I am looking at the Video "Using OData Data Sources" and in it a connection is created for an "OData" data type. In particular, when Building the string and choosing "Connection Types", you get a dialog instead of a dropdown and there are numerous new connection types available, including one for OData.

That dialog doesn't appear to be in my version of Alpha, although I have checked and I have the latest build.

Am I missing something or are the features shown in that video not available in a production version of Alpha?

    Thanks for any ideas.

OData was added in Sept. 2015 in a pre-release. It's not in the last production release - 2999 - in July 2015.

Well, that would be my preferred explanation. :) I know one should in theory be able to use "http" methods, but the procedure in the video was much more straightforward (read easy).

However, I also had a look at Alpha's pricing and saw a chart that indicated that OData and RestAPI support was only in the "Enterprise" version, which I had never heard of but which I should have expected was coming. So I'm not sure if OData support will be in the next release or if one will have to be at this new subscription level. Complicating things is the email we got a while back that told us if we renewed our subscription then as a charter member we wouldn't be subject to the "new pricing" (whatever that is).

I guess the upshot is that the "Using OData Data Sources" video is, right now, of no use to Alpha developers (other than to demonstrate what might or might not be coming).

Thanks for letting me know I'm not "not seeing things that are there". :)

You should also check the new price listing to my information as i read it is a enterprise feature
http://www.alphasoftware.com/pricing/ subject OData and Rest Services Integration
new price listing talks about 3 types of developers business, business PRO and enterprise.

But you better ask sales at alpha or this is correct, thinks always change

Yes, I know, that's what I saw. So I don't know what's going on (I guess when you ask them "how much will it cost me for Odata" they'll say "how much do you want to pay?" :) ).

I have an email into the last sales rep I dealt with trying to find out what level subscription I have (given I'm a "charter member" and renewed after receiving their marketing email). I'd like Odata but when they say to call for pricing the hairs on the back of my neck stand up (I certainly don't need three developer licenses). Look, they have a right to charge what they feel is appropriate, although they should be bound by the promises one relied on to renew. We (I) have a right to use the development environment we choose, after taking into account things like cost, features and support.

          We'll see what they say.

          Thanks for chiming in.

a subscription right to all that is new is released. If you renew it's part of the deal that it. I think the price list is only valid for new customers in the new release 2016. Unfortunately sales are not always as clear as evidenced by past experience. So send an email and ask for written confirmation.
