Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Problems with Action Javascript Buttons Since Update

I have an abundance of grids that use Action JavaScript buttons to open other grids. Some are in the toolbar and some are a hyperlink in a record. (They work fine to open a project webpage, just not other grids.)

They all worked fine until I recently updated my Application Server and Development software. Now 90% of them do nothing when clicked.

I've tried deleting them and re-creating them, but to no avail.

It should be noted that my development software and Application Server was about a year out of date. My subscription expired at the end of 2014, and I just renewed it at the beginning of this year.

Has something changed since the beginning of 2015 that would have affected my Action JavaScript buttons?

This is causing me all kinds of headaches to say the least, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

    Thanks,

Updated to what version? ...the latest official AA build is 2999_4519 (released on 28 JUL 2015 01:32 PM). Any update after that is a pre-release and may/may not work.

The pre-releases are pretty good, in fact production quality. A lot has changed since 7/2015 and I am running my application on production with a very recent pre-release. Take a back-up of everything and then maybe recalculate the controls to see if that helps. If not try to develop a simple example and see if that works. If it doesn't file a bug report, Alpha is very responsive about fixing bugs and other oddities.

This is weird too ....... Mike I replied to your post a few hours after you posted it, and said that I was running version 2999_4519, which, as you said, is the latest verison, so I don't know why I am having so many issues.

(I also don't know what happened to my Message Board response post, but of course that has nothing to do with the A5 problem.)

In any event, is seems the problem mainly stems from grids that live on an A5W page that has other html code on it. For example, I have a template I made which displays the logged in user's name at the top, and a "Main Menu" submit button at the bottom, and never had any problems until I updated. But now, if I save a grid which has Action JavaScript buttons on it that open other grids to a new A5W page with no other html coding, the buttons work fine. But if I open my template, and import the same grid, when that page is published, the action buttons will not work.

It's almost as if the extra html coding is somehow interfering with the action buttons.

What I don't understand is why I continue to get the warning (in "news and updates" @ launch) that I am not using the most recent version and should update to 2999 every time aa v.12 loads.
I have installed the "most recent version" (not the pre-release versions) several times (v.2999_4519.) ~ Regardless, this "warning" never goes away....
