Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Grid only displaying 10 records

I have a tabular, read only grid with search, built on mysql backend. My select is initially returning over 3000 records as expected but I can't find where I can specify to show 25 or 50 records per page if desired.

I only have "Rows of data when search active" which was set to -1. I changed to 50 and still only displaying 10 records at a time.

        Hi George,

Is "Rows of Data" not listed in the Grid properties? It should appear immediately above "Rows of data when search active":

George - also needs to be said: be careful about how many rows you decide to send to the browser at once. There's a good reason the grid and other Alpha tools provide pagination. Performance from the user's standpoint can get really lousy if you try to send large loads to the client.

Re: Grid only displaying 10 records

I started out building my grid by choosing "Create grid from a template" and then chose "Enter record Form (SQL)". My datasource needs to remain read-only so I just selected the read-only box once building my connection. I never did see the "Rows of data" setting as Beta points out.
Today I built a new grid, this time from a blank grid component "Read-only Grid (SQL)". All seemed to be fine at this point. I could see the Rows of data and arrived at the view desired.

I took the wrong path at the start and didn't think it would matter if I chose to switch to read-only later.
Thanks for the help and sorry for the hassle. I hope this thread helps someone else.

Re: Grid only displaying 10 records

I wanted to add what this app is for and why read-only as it may facilitate others. Our phone system is ShoreTel and this system writes to mysql db. Some people at work may call a customer, and for whatever reason, not leave a message for a callback. The customer later calls back asking who called them, prompting the switchboard operator to send an email to everyone. My app allows them to do a search for "number dialed" and the grid displays the extension that called that number. The SB operator then can transfer the call while the customer is on the phone.

My select contains add_days (currentdate, -1) to limit the qty of data returned.
