Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    List Control - Multi Select - Does it create an array?

    Hey All!

    Does anyone know if when multiple rows are selected in a List Control, if an array is created? If so I am wondering how to get a pointer to the array so that I can perform batch actions on the records in the list control. If anyone knows and can point me in the right direction, that'd be awesome!

    Thanks

    Yes, you get an array in xbasic in the e.dataSubmitted.YOUR_FIELD
    Be careful when trying to see if any items were actually selected or not. I had to override the value returned by array.size(), by checking the first element against empty string:

    Code:
    dim slctDSCnt as N
    slctDSCnt = e.DataSubmitted.LIST_DS.size()
    '-- Silly Alpha will give us an array with one blank element when there is no selection.
    '-- Unless, this is just because I was running in W/P and there were no elements to even select from in list.
    if slctDSCnt = 1
    	if e.DataSubmitted.LIST_DS[1] = ""
    		slctDSCnt = 0
    	end if
    end	if
    I used the info in vide UX_V12--110 to add a checkmark to each selected row in the list. However, the demonstrated code has a problem when used with container windows -- the checkmarks can remain visible when the container window is closed!!!

      Thanks for the info! Is it possible to access the pk in the array so that I can make sure that my actions apply to only those records selected?

        You don't say how or where you want to use the data... but if it's client-side there's a number of arrays in the List object that are interesting. For example, from a button on your UX...

        Code:
        var lObj = {dialog.Object}.getControl('LIST1');
        then...

        lObj.selection will give you a zero-based array of selected row numbers.
        lObj.selectionData will give you an array of objects... data for all the selected rows
        lObj.value will give you an array of the return field values

          Thanks for the reply David. I want to use the data in an xbasic function

            Thanks a lot guys, I really should've thought about looking at e.dataSubmitted.my_list

              Re: List Control - Multi Select - Does it create an array?

              Trying to loop through and in the debugger I see the correct size but when I try to do a simple alert with the pk for each row it is only returning the very last PK from the list. Does anything look off?

              Code:
              dim cnt as N
              cnt = e.dataSubmitted.work_orders.size()
              dim i as n

              arr = e.dataSubmitted.work_orders

              for i = 1 to cnt

              pk = e.dataSubmitted.work_orders[i]

              listData = "alert('"+js_escape(pk)+"');"

              next i
              update:

              I ran through it again in the debugger and I see it loop through each, I expected it to return an alert for each iteration but I guess it doesn't behave that way.

                What do you see with the xbasic debug?

                  Re: List Control - Multi Select - Does it create an array?

                  An Ajax Callback has just 1 return... the server-side code completes... and then returns... once. This code will build a text list of selected row keys within a loop and when the loop is done, return that info in an alert.

                  Code:
                  if e.dataSubmitted.work_orders[1] = "" then
                  	listData = "alert('No Work Orders selected');"
                  	end
                  end if

                  dim listCnt as n
                  dim i as n
                  dim msg as c = ""

                  listCnt = e.dataSubmitted.work_orders.size()

                  for i = 1 to listCnt
                  	msg = msg + e.dataSubmitted.work_orders[i] + "\n"
                  next i

                  listData = "alert('" + msg + "');"
