Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

File Upload problem when moving from V11 to V12

Situation: I have a working V11 application that includes the use of File Upload - User Defined from various locations in the application, typically from a button in a grid component. I've been porting the application to V12, and the File Upload - User Defined function no longer works -- it appears to be a permissions problem, but I haven't been able to track down what is really going on, because it works fine in LivePreview, but not on the test server running the AA Web Server.

Details: When you click the upload button, Action Javascript is tied to the onclick function. The Javascript is configured to permit only one file upload. The upload box opens successfully and allows me to pick a file to upload (there aren't any restrictions on file type extensions in the upload, and the file is well below the max file size threshold). When I click upload, I immediately receive a popup from the browser asking if I want to navigate away from the window. If I select "yes", the entire system drops to the login screen. If I say "no", the frame holding the upload control drops to the login screen. The file is not uploaded, and it is pretty hard to tell if the XBasic is running or if the problem happens before the callback.

Additional info: I've tried both the "data" and "filename" options with the same result. I've removed all of the XBasic code and replaced it with a simple e.javascript="alert('HERE');" statement, but I never see the alert (but I do in LivePreview). As I mentioned, in LivePreview on my local machine everything about the upload works correctly, and everything worked correctly with V11.

It seems to me that it must be a permissions problem somewhere, but the AAWebroot (my AWS Webroot) has the same permissions as the old version. I know this must be something simple I'm missing on the server configuration... but I've reached the end of my ideas.

Does anybody have a suggestion? Thanks!

Have you set the allowed file-names and the allowed folders in the Web Projects Properties?

Unfortunately, modifying allowed file-names and folders in the Web Project didn't have any impact on the problem.

A few more details from additional debugging:
      1. The "Select File" frame clears and shows the progress bar and the abort button briefly before the browser pops up a message "Are you sure you want to leave this page?"
      2. When you select No to the browser navigation popup, the frame remains on the screen with the upload and cancel buttons at the bottom, but the component inside is replaced with the login screen for the application.
      3. When I change web security to change "Redirect page - insufficient permission" to a page other than index.a5w (the login page), this sequence still gives me the login page, not the insufficient permissions page, although other aspects of the application do redirect correctly to the insufficient permissions page.

      Thanks again for your help!

Sorry for the double post, but an additional interesting item: When I turn off the progress bar and the abort button in the "File Upload - User Defined" action, upload sequence still doesn't work, but the outcome is very different. After selecting a file to upload and pressing the upload button, the frame clears and the following text is displayed: confirmExit = function(){};window.location='index.a5w'; , still with the Upload and Cancel buttons at the bottom of the frame.

I don't know if you are using a List with Detail View in your rebuild - if you are you cannot use file upload - out of the box - its not supported you need to bind the update table to the UX not the list.
