Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Enable Expression For Repeating Section

    I'm trying to disable a checkbox control based on whether a field in a repeating section is blank or not.

    This expression will work to disable the checkbox based on a control outside of a repeating section:
    Code:
    Repair <> ''
    However, the same expression doesn't work if the control is inside a repeating section:
    Code:
    PartNum <> ''
    Anyone know how to make it work?

    What should happen if the field in line 1 is blank and the field is not blank in line 2?

      Re: Enable Expression For Repeating Section

      Here's a screenshot, if the Part Number inside the repeating section is blank, I want to disable the SSA checkbox outside of the repeating section. If the Part Number field is NOT blank, then I want to enable the SSA checkbox.

      It's like the UX can't see what's happening inside the repeating section.

        you could try something else
        create another non bound field SSA2 ( hide it eventually)
        and then go to the repeating section part number onChange event
        add these inline javascript code

        Code:
        var partNumber = {dialog.Object}.getValue('PARTNUM');
        if (partNumber != "") {
        {dialog.Object}.setValue('SSA2',1 );
        }
        then on the enable/disable you add
        if SSA2 != ""

        I can test it little later
        thanks for reading

          Re: Enable Expression For Repeating Section

          Are you asking about disabling a control that is NOT in a repeating section... based on a control that is in the repeating section? You can do this, but as Pieter points out, what's your level of checking? If you have 10 rows in a repeating section, then are you testing all 10 rows... or the 1st row... or the 6th row?

          To disable a control that is NOT in a repeating section, based on a control in the 1st row of the a repeating section... you can do this.

          Code:
          Over_Budget_A5INSTANCE1 <> ''
          Where Over_Budget is the control name in the repeating section and _A5INSTANCE1 is the 1st row of the repeating section.

          But... this only seems to be valid for the 1st row. And if you use the builder to enter this expression you'll get an error that the field you're using isn't available.

          In order to test all rows, you'd best do this with a javascript function on the Enable Expression property.

            Re: Enable Expression For Repeating Section

            Thanks David & Ghandi, both of your methods work.
            I only require to check the first row instance in the repeating section, so David's method is the simplest approach.

            Thank you for your help!
