Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Open UX and go to specific Tab Pane

My tab pane selection is made with a button list control ('bl1')

After opening the UX, I run some inline javascript synchronously with the following:

    Code:
    var bObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('bl1');
    bObj.setValue('Bio');
"Bio" is the value in the button list control that shows the pane I want to display.

Unfortunately, the default pane always shows when the UX appears.

    What am I missing? Thanks

Is the value of bl1 actually getting set?

In which event are you setting this value? (onInitialize, onExecute, etc.)

What event on the button list control actually does the work of changing the pane? If it is OnChange, then your code might work fine, but if it is onclick or some other event, just changing the value of the control won't fire it.

There is a Setpane JavaScript command. I don't have my computer on at the moment but I think you are looking for this.

Are you doing top secret work and you would have to kill me if you gave me too much information?

Detail the entire UX for me - as in:

How are you calling the UX?
Are you passing in the value of the tab pane via an Argument or a variable?
In which event(s) do you have the setpane command?
In what event are you trying to set the value of the control?
And what event ON the control is setting the pane?
How, exactly is your button list setup?
Did you create this using one of the templates provided by alpha - and if so, which one?

Look - I want to help, but you need to provide a lot more information.

          Larry,

Thank you for your willingness to help. Been a very hectic 24 hours so I am just now getting to my email.

Here is a video showing how everything is setup and what I am attempting to do: http://screencast.com/t/s3R83OJVZ

It shows what I have attempted...have also tried adding a refresh client side calc step, but still no love. The video shows added space after the "bl1" but in my efforts, that space did not exist.

            Ok.

I see what you are doing, I'll try to help, but we could spend a long time going over it via the forum. If you would like to get this done quickly, private message me and we can do a teamviewer session.

First of all, you have to understand that javascript is run on the grid or ux where you put it.

So the javascript you have written on the grid is actually running on the GRID - not the UX, so your button value is not getting set. The javascript can't see that button list from the grid.

What you need to do is put an argument on the UX that you can pass in. Then you set that argument from the calling grid.

In the UX, you then use that argument to set the pane.

Hope this helps get you moving forward. If you need more, write back or pm me.

              Larry,

Thank you for your assistance. Your last tip was the final piece I was missing.....I am still learning the nuances of arguments. I appreciate your help in this.

              Cheers!
