Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    1st Installation Dilema_Olaf

I have been an Alpha "developer" for the past 2 years. That is learning the tool part time whilst still sorting out my clients full time. In the game for the past 42 years. Most clients are running access over sql. I have just completed my first project mobile designed for IPad. Bus booking and driver run schedule. This is on my laptop. I am based in Townsville North Queensland but go where the projects are currently in Nth Victoria. This generates an issue with the changing time zones whilst developing- but we get around this.

I want to move the project from my laptop to the client's server. I know I needed for them to get a license so 12 days ago (1/2/2016) I contacted the sales office and asked re the license and also posed a question re time zones. This must have been to hard and he gave me a phone number. Great, I'm In Australia at different time zones etc. etc. I advise him and he replied with an email address for customer service. 3 or maybe 4 attempts at emailing customer service has resulted in NO RESPONSE or acknowledgement of receiving the messages. Very disappointing, egg on my face having talked Alpha Up to my client and leaving me unsure as to the correct action. I bit the bullet ad decided on the following action (right, wrong or indifferent).

I downloaded the free trial version onto the client server into a folder called "Tracker" . This was assigned to hold my desk top software 2 years ago. The download was OK and all looked well until I attempted to start the development server. It was attempting to create A5Webroot folder on H: which the IT guy here didn't want and asked if I could redirect it to be established in a my or another folder on H.

    The issue I have is:

    a) I am unsure I have done the right thing in dropping down the trial version?

    b) What are the rules to establishing A5webroot.

I would appreciate someone to get me on the right track I have waisted/lost at least 10 days waiting for someone customer service and now have probably stuffed up due to frustration.

    Hi Olaf
    Quick reply

    a) No problem installing the trial version in the meantime until you get your licensing issue resolved.
Did you want to transfer your laptop license to the server?

    b) You need to change the default location for a5webroot publishing (in your case h:\a5webroot)
in publishing settings and also the development server settings see the screenshots attached

just realised you have posted this in the V9 forum instead of v12!
