Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Uploading pdf. Pdf doesnt appear in the folder.

    Hey guys.

    I added a file upload button as well as the File Upload/Download control.

    Set as update-able, chose table and field.

    Chose target folder in the A5webroot folder.

    When running the choose file dialog opens, it says uploading, the path gets added to the SQL database but the folder remains empty. Im not sure what could be the mistake I am making.

    Here are some screens of the settings :

      John, did you figure this out?
      If not, check your project properties and make sure you have allowed file extensions in there.

          Isn't there anyway I can just upload a pdf into the sql database and save it into a BLOB field like I can do with images?

            When I made a Embedded File upload button, It brings up the dialog box, fills in the file description, file extension fields, but the actual BLOB field still remains empty.

              If you look at the image, The first record it was set to save it in a folder, and the second to embed it. Both cases the info is saved but the actual file isn't really uploaded.

                Can't see the file name but for what its worth make sure there are no apostrophes or empty spaces in the file name. I've had failures with file names like "Mr's Smith Something or other" ...I tell my client's to use "Mrs_Smith_Something_or_other".

                  Hi, I tried one only called "booking.pdf" and it saved the file type and filename but still no pdf appearing. Im not sure how I will pinpoint what error is stopping it from being saved. I don't know what other information I can give.

                    Re: Uploading pdf. Pdf doesnt appear in the folder.

                    From searching these forums I get the idea that you can only embed the pdf into the blob field with a submit button and not with a save button.
                    I am using the following in my Save button

                    Code:
                    var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST');
                    lObj.updateListFromUXControls();
                    {dialog.object}.saveListEdits('LIST',{rows: 'allRows'});
                    {dialog.object}.runAction('Switch to new set list');
                    {dialog.object}.showWaitMessage('panel:PANELCARD',{useCSSAnimation: false,message: 'Wait...',icon: 'css/A5System/Images/wait.gif',waitMessageAutoCloseDelay: 5000});
                    So there is no
                    Code:
                    {dialog.object}.submit();
                    being used.

                    Could this be the problem?

                      Should I add anything to the Server or Client side event options?

                        PDF file not being uploaded

                        Hey guys, sorry for the re post but I still haven't solved my PDF problem. I have no idea what could be the matter.

                        I added a file upload button as well as the File Upload/Download control.

                        Set as update-able, chose table and field.

                        When running the choose file dialog opens, it says uploading, the path gets added to the SQL database but the folder remains empty. No errors or anything.

                        Files uploaded has no spaces and no caps, so it couldn't be the problem.

                        Any advice would be appreciated. I really need to fix this. Ive searched the wiki but no results.

                              Hi John,

                              Here's how I have it set up, take a look and see if it helps at all.

                              I have a button to run the file upload, a File Upload/Download component, and a hidden label control called NotesAttach
                              1. UX Controls.jpg

                              When I click the button, File Upload action javascript runs with the following settings
                              Note, the control to store my filename is my hidden control called NotesAttach
                              2 File Upload Action Javascript.jpg

                              Finally, in the data binding, the NotesAttach control is unbound and the Fileupload control is bound to a field in my sql table called Notes
                              3 Data Binding.jpg 4 Database Upload Field.jpg

                              It's been a long time since I first set this up, but I think I did it this way in order to make the data binding work. Hope this helps.
